Alright, time to revitalize this site.
Look, I have been a moderator of this site for many years now. The advent of social media outlets such as FB and Twitter have supposedly made of forums such as this "obsolete". I could not disagree more. It is due to independent media that important issues are discussed. This forum is not dead, quite the opposite. Once people realize that traditional social media is out of synch with regular people, will people flock to sites like this.

I hate Facebook and Twitter.

Typo. I somehow hit the "v" rather than the "t." I corrected my posting above.

Re: Alright, time to revitalize this site.
The issue isn't that forums are obsolete.
The issue is that THIS forum is obsolete.
Why should people come here when there are other forums with more features better suited for anime? With resources to find any anime you want, and the latest news on anything anime related.
This site has nothing to offer. The only change in the last ten years was the addition of a ton of mods, who were all made mostly obsolete themselves when a spam bot was added. The admins are barely here anymore.

Re: Alright, time to revitalize this site.
The problem isn't members, it's participation. I mean I try. God I started a Transformers thread. A show pretty much everyone here has seen.
I only asked who their favorite characters were and which version. It says I got 160 views.
No responses.
As I post this it says there are 154 members online right now. 35 in this part of the forum apparently reading all of this. The stats are at the bottom of the forum. If this keeps up the moderators might have to unban a few people just to get some dissenting opinions in here.
It's like we're in the freaking Never-ending Story only Bastian refuses to call out the Childlike Empress's name.

You're reading this right now. Hundreds of you!
Why? Why won't you type up your opinion!? Make a comment! Take five minutes and write a few sentences. Do it now, or all of this... will vanish... Use your freaking imaginations!

I wasn't going to post again, but I find myself gravitating back very recently and this post hit the nail on the head. I've been saying this for 7 years now, the issue with this website is the website itself. Its not the users. Its not participation. I don't comprehend why people seem to think its the user's responsibility to make a dying website better. Back in 2013/2014, my posts were often not taken seriously when I began noticing signs of an inevitable regression. I think back in 2014 (maybe 2015), I literally said this website only had 3-5 years before it would become what we have now. My posts were often dismissed with "then you think of something to make the forum better!" or "the forum is actually getting more active" or "post post post eventually you'll make a thread that sticks". The reality is, this is higher ups simply passing responsibility onto people under them. I remember when I had a run as moderator here (true, I 100% deserved a demotion due to my behavior in the later parts of my run, but not many people actually know the full story) and all I needed was AG to get updated. That's all. I was told it would be for fifteen months, but it never did. I was absolutely left to dry during that. The problem with this website is simple and I'm happy more people realize it now:
This website hasn't grown enough to combat other options and the people in charge are no longer doing good enough to run this website properly. I understand people are busy. I also understand the admins are good people. I've never disliked Ace. He created a website that gave me many good memories. However, cultures can eventually run dry and die out. The culture they built is dead and this website needs new direction and ownership that will inspire change. My opinion? Ace can keep the website and revenue, but should consider giving admin operations to like 3-4 people who are going to be dedicated to giving this website the change it needs. There's nothing wrong with admitting this website has run its course under this brand. It simply, has.

Its not up the "people". Its up to the top to create and maintain a brand that is worth engaging in.

They aren't members, they are "guests" which are actually bots. It doesn't count.
Also the 160 views....also bots.
Ask an admin, they will say the same.

Re: Alright, time to revitalize this site.
And the circle remains unbroken...
Sometimes I think the only thing that keeps the site going is people reminiscing and posting about how dead things are.
But seriously, what's there to say that hasn't already been said in the last 300 "This site is dead/dying/needs resuscitation/etc." threads?
Do we blame the Site Admins for not updating and keeping the site snazzy for folks?
Do we blame the regular Admins and Mods for pure laziness and being distracted by irl things like life?
Do we blame the users for only complaining because things aren't how they want them?

Re: Alright, time to revitalize this site.
So much for revitalizing.
But that's okay. We just have to take for what it is. It's fun looking back at all the fun times we had.

Didn't know you knew Gun Gun Pixies. I own that for Switch.

Re: Alright, time to revitalize this site.
I understand the situation. I'm just saying that I joined this site in 2006, meaning that I've been a member for literally half of my life.

Gotta be honest, when I first came around it was when there was a chatroom. I think some Java applet or Volano, whatever it was then. I briefly dropped in again due to nostalgia (it's a helluva drug), and the TuxedoMask.com link dropped over to these forums, lol. Judging by my account I posted from time to time, but being an active forum poster doesn't really stick out in my memories as a reason why I was here.
To your point, if I want to find new anime or talk to someone about something I watched, I check with some friends I know watch anime on a Discord server...or maybe go over to /r/anime on reddit, or MyAnimeList.net.
I'm not sure what would bring in new blood either. I remember RPG being popular back in the day, but am guessing people get their fixes through games/fanfic/DnD now instead, or other sites more suited to RPG.
Maybe weekly/monthly events? Contests? Something that'd keep people active and returning? Bringing back the chatroom - though I know that has its own complications because of a need to moderate too. That one might be a bad idea.

Re: Alright, time to revitalize this site.
Has anyone tried going to other sites like this and inviting people in in person?

As far as I can tell, there aren't many sites like this. The last one I was on, other than this, most of the posters were anal. You don't want them here.

Re: Alright, time to revitalize this site.
I joined this place around 2011, so I guess not that long. My sole reason of joining this site is because a dear friend of mine was active here. RyuTama you sly fox where'd you go after inviting me here?! And other friends I made who came and went away somewhere in between. Visiting this site always brings me back to memory lane.
A part of me..feels sad because this kind of site/forum is dying due to other things like discord, etc. I mean Discord is nice but it don't have the feel of writing a post, or leaving messages on your friends' profiles, the anticipation of seeing people replying/quoting on your post.
Meh I'm just rambling, seeing how this thread is active for now.

Re: Alright, time to revitalize this site.
I think there could be a pickup here... eventually.
The internet changes so very fast. The anime section of Internet culture also changes pretty fast on its own.
Inviting people here definitely seems like a way to go about it. I think there are enough people out there with a bit of nostalgia for places like this. Awakening that nostalgia is key, but also cultivating, well culture. Culture is what drew me here originally and the sense of community.
