I would like to get started on playing the games of Final Fantasy but have no idea where I should start. I was thinking Final Fantasy XIII or Final Fantasy X but I don't know if they'll be confusing for a newbie like me.... Any suggestions?

I say start from the beginning. If you wanna start the series then start from the very start ^^
The final fantasy series are all different from each other. I'd personally start from 7 and 8 because those my fave ones or 5 thats my fave old school one. :)
First off, welcome to AF!
As for which FF to play, every FF is a stand alone game except for the sequels like XIII-2. So play one without a ”2” at the end.
So it would be a fresh start tor ya, regardless of the game you play.
It's all about 9. I don't like 7. I said this a lot but Final Fantasy 7 is the DBZ of RPGs. It was great back at it's time but it's glory already expired. There is better stuff out there.Quote:

You are going to have a lot of different answers. So check out your options, ready some synopses, and go with whichever one draws you in first. I am a huge fan of VIII. VII is my second favorite. Quite honestly, you also couldn't go wrong starting with X, but that's just my personal opinion.
I, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIII.
If you want to play in the US order.
If you want something easy, go with XII. Someone might say, "But wait, there's farming for the best equipment to be done, and that's not easy!" Well, I say unto you: Shush. Literally, the gambit system makes that game easy.
FFXII is easy without the gambit system, but I don't think it's a good FF to start out with seeing as it's unlike any other FF games. It plays out more like an MMORPG with the quests and whatnot. I think playing a more straightforward FF game like FFIV, VI or the PSX FF games would be a better start.

VIII used to be my favorite, but then I tried X and XIII. If you'd want to pick which one, I'd say XIII. There is a XIII-2, but it's not like you HAVE to play it. Ultimately, aesthetically XIII is a winner. Nice story too. VIII I found a little confusing. x\
Like I said, if they want an easy game, pick that. If they want to get to the roots of FF, then the other games suggested are the better pick. Besides, most are tied together just by having Cid in them.Quote:

I wouldn't really say that Cid ties all of them together since he wasn't in all of the Final Fantasy games, and he was a completely different character in each. If there was anything that actually ties them together it would have to be "Crystals". Or at least that what they made it seem like in Dissidia and Theaterhythm. Even though FFVII, VIII and X didn't actually have your classic FF crystals in the game they made materia, rinoa wings and a sphere out to be Cloud, Squall and Tidus' crystals in the game.Quote:

Great story and graphics for a GBA game. Controls aren't hard. Although, if you're gonna start with playing FFVI. That would be a great choice.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was thinking I'd have to be the person to suggest FF V. While it wasn't my first Final Fantasy, not even my fifth, it was one oft the games I enjoyed playing the most for one reason. Class System. After playing so many games where Equipment was the only thing you could really customize about a character, I'm looking at you FF IV. So when you could totally change what spells/abilities a character was able to use it just blew my mind and brought out the completion addict in me. Haha.Quote:
