Re: I Have Dreaded This Day
Either wait until your due for an upgrade if that is on your plan or use some of your saving and buy a new phone.

Well, happened more or less the same thing with me a couple of months ago (also didn't have insurance)
I accidentaly dropped my phone on the toilet (don't ask me how xD).
It shut down immediately and as I couldn't turn it on I panicked.
I removed the batery and the memory card and tried to take the most water I could with a small towel, then I puted it on my room's window to get some sun, with the screen facedown.
I keep doing this for a couple of days (day by day the screen was a bit wet as more water was being removed) and always trying to turn on the phone, which happenned in about a week or so.
I remember reading in some foruns that this worked with many phones dropped in the water, hope it helped! :)
Re: I Have Dreaded This Day
@Dr. Evil I hope yours is not an iPhone or other phones with built-in non-removal battery 'cause if the water came into contact it the terminals, it short-circuited it; rendered it useless. It will damaged the phone circuit board in the process. :|

Haha that happened to me 3 months ago. My iPhone was in my shirt pocket and I bent over to pick up the bog roll and it fell in. It still worked afterwards but wouldn't charged so I phone Apple. Not telling them it had fallen in water I just said it stoped working and then I sent it to them for repairs, they couldn't repair it do they sent me a new one. Btw the phone isn't a contract, I paid £600 for it.

Yeah.... I had a phone that met Death by Toilet... I also had no insurance... needless to say, my phones no longer go into the bathroom, and I always have insurance... as for the OP: you are probably screwed. Look into a Pre-pay maybe?

OP means original poster. It's used on Reddit, 4Chan, and the /b/ Subreddit. Also, I didnt get lucky and I got a new one from Boost. It was only 50 dollars so i'm happy with it.

I dont now about these new fancier phones but even my 5 yr old windows mobile phone can back up your contacts on your computer whenever you want (for free of course).
Looks like the op has already remedied the situation. I never get insurance either, guess I'm playing with fire there. But I've been out of contract for a while so anytime I want I can upgrade. And I keep an old phone at the ready, I can just swap in my sim card if my smartphone craps out.
Re: I Have Dreaded This Day
Well glad you got a new one for a decent price. I've gotten lucky, had mine almost hit the drink once, but instead of me trying to catch it, I just batted it half way across the yard, so saved it. :)
If you havent gotten rid of it yet, I would still keep trying the rice and sun for a week or so, who knows, it might come back to life.
