An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
Quote:
When his 10-year-old son, Akian, started getting into trouble at school, Stuart Chaifetz was stunned. The notes from Horace Mann Elementary School in Cherry Hill, N.J., said that Akian, who has autism, was having violent outbursts and hitting his teacher and his aide -- behavior that the boy had never exhibited before.
"I could not understand why this was happening," Chaifetz, a 44-year-old animal rights activist in New Jersey, wrote on his website. "I had never witnessed Akian hit anyone, nor could I dream of him lashing out as had been described to me."
In October 2011, he met with Akian's teachers and school therapists. A behaviorist was called in, but during several classroom visits he didn't see Akian become violent. "He tried to create a scenario that would push Akian so far that he would lash out," Chaifetz explained. "And Akian did not."
"If Akian was pushed and didn't do anything, what was setting him off?" his dad wondered. After six months of meetings yielded no answers, he decided that he needed to know what was happening in his son's class. Like Akian, all of the other kids in his class also have autism, and complications from the disorder prevent them from being able to communicate to their parents about what goes on in the classroom.
"The morning of February 17, I put a wire on my son, and I sent him to school," Chaifetz says in a video he created to showcase the audio clips. "What I heard on that audio was so disgusting, vile, and just an absolute disrespect and bullying of my son, that happened not by other children, but by his teacher, and the aides -- the people who were supposed to protect him. They were literally making my son's life a living hell."

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
That's pretty terrible, some people should not become teachers at all.
-
Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
For all it's worth, the teachers and aides should be fired from their jobs and charged immediately.

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
One of the many reasons I'm against teacher unions. And unions in general. They protect people that really shouldn't be working. Instead put more legislation in place to protect those who should be protected. What these people did to this boy is shocking and I'm surprised it went on for as long as it did. You think someone would have heard it before the wire tapping was necessary. There's no excuse for it and makes you wonder how long this has been going on. Where they doing the same thing in previous years? How many kids have they hurt over the years. Everyone in that room needs to be fired and not allowed to work again. Or even have children of their own. If they can't handle other peoples children what makes you think they'll handle their own children well. Especially when one of them is probably an alcoholic.

He isnt the only one. Only these students arent being bullied

@MaruDashi
Wow, I didn't even know that this was even going on.

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
I know I'd definetly go on a substance abuse vice ifI had to deal with their filthy Assburgers-infested children.
Poor teachers.

Oh , so you are not only a brony , but also an asshat uh? Nice , that's 2 reasons for me to dislike you...
They chose to be teachers. They knew what they would have to put up with.

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
someone deserves one big can of whoopass. Doing something like that to a 10 year old is already f**ked up. doing it to an entire class of autistic kids is just beyond words for me to describe. I'm an insensitive a**hole a lot of the time, but I would NEVER stoop so low as to pick on small kids.

I don't dislike people that watch MLP , but come on , its just a show. What i dislike is people that shove it on people's faces.

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
@MaruDashi Yeah, saw that. Couldn't sit through the entire video. Though that was done back in 2003. I'd put both of these incidents as torture. Especially the last one who received brain damage. The devices they used where more powerful then tasers. I wouldn't even want those used on kids as they've killed adults. The kid there had mental disabilities to begin with. I just don't get what goes through these peoples heads to think something like that is a good idea. And all the kid did was refuse to remove his coat. Really, you're going to electrocute a kid over that.

Yeah fer real.
The class was for kids with autism, if you bothered to watch the video that Aleyna posted along with the thread. It was their job to "put up with" them.

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
Didn't want the entire thing of neither video, pretty much cause it already got the point across.
That said, some people are just sick in the heck and they don't even deserve to be teachers at all.
@Princess Cupcake That makes it even worse. Pathetic. -.-

That's so terrible. Seriously, a large group of adults against one small teenager... It's the very definition of cowardice! I would LOVE to be in that very situation just so that I could teach those pathetic excuses of a man how to grow a pair.

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
@Kaitou+
Especially because those teachers are required to have a special education license in order to teach students with disabilities, which means they were trained in how to deal with them properly but as you can see, they did the exact opposite =\

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
I guess this, and many other things, are reasons why some people seem to dislike our education system...
I mean.. c'mon, how can you say "We have a good system" when a certified Aide for Disabled Children, isn't even doing their job correctly at all..
reminds me of my art teacher, she constantly scolds the disabled kids in our class, and yells at them for not painting correctly..
They have the minds of 2 year olds and below, obviously they wont know how to :/
makes me wonder why people go into these jobs.. I sometimes guess its the $ that drives them there.. oh well..

Re: An Autistic Child Is Bullied By His Teachers
*edit* Someone took the time to call me out on this, and I stand corrected. On reflection, I see that what I wrote is ignorant and unnecessarily spiteful. I'll leave the post up for reference but I retract what I said. My apologies.

None of the above terms you used as derogative present any negative qualities that I see. You must be a real jerk for hating people for no reason.

Hey, you're all going to college thinking you'd get some pathetic desk job that pays well, but you've no idea what you're really in for. Neither did they!

That's the same as saying "Hey guys , Hitler was actually a pretty nice guy. He became the Fuhrer of Germany thinking he'd have an easy ride , but it was actually quite hard , so he decided to kill a few million people . But its totally not his fault , and if i was in his position id do the same guys!"
See how dumb you sound?

You want to talk about fallacies? What bout that last one, in which instead of trying to counter my argument you criticized its form? All while contributing nothing to the discussion.
If it annoys you so much ill replace Hitler for Stalin and Germany for USSR...

To the teachers in question, neglectfulness and substance abuse are acquirable vices, just like Asspergers is to basement dwelling teenagers who watch anime or or spoiled, or undisciplined children with overprotective fathers. Sure, the teacher's behavior was unacceptable to the profession, but not something scandalous or so morally infringing that internet people have to open of truckloads of waaaaaaambulances.

First of all , nice Ad Hominem.
Secondly , there is quite the difference between autism and aspergers... Maybe you should google it before you start talking about it.

Assburgers is a speculation on Autism by non-psychiatric "professionals", (the same psychologists that say homosexuality is genetic though they're not qualified in the field) none of the two cases are physiologically visible, so they can only diagnose people with either Autism or Aspergers, and due to the recent hype about them, the two are often mistaken by these professionals, so you can't really tell what that kid had.
