この学園でまともなのって校長先生と先生くらいだし
I'm reading a manga and I've come across a line I can't quite make sense of. It's probably something really obvious that I'll feel like an idiot for not getting, and anyway I doubt I'd lose much by ignoring it and moving on, but it's bothering me, so...
Character A complains that Character B always leaves early from their afterschool chores. Character B says she can't help it, and anyway, she asked the teacher about it personally ("先生直々頼まれたんだし"). Character C says "You really like the teacher, don't you?" ("本当に先生が好きなのですね"), whereupon B blushes and flails and says "この学園でまともなのって校長先生と先生くらいだし."
The only thing I can come up with for that is "at this school, the principal is about the same as a teacher," but that's a total non-sequitur, so I doubt it can be right.

"At this school only him and the principal are the ones serious enough (with their job)"
-
Oh! Thanks. As expected, it's terribly obvious now that you've said that. I am an idiot. >_>

to make simple
この学園でまともなのって校長先生と先生くらいだし
この学園 this academy
で at
まとも (な) (adj.) someone who faces things properly with a good attitude
の is replacing もの(者 in this case) as の is used to replace もの and こと in these situations (飲むのが好き = 飲むことが好き)(服は赤いのがいい = 服は赤い物がいい)
って in proper japanese is speech change for とは but in daily speech and in this instance, it is more close to just は (if I were to translate to proper grammatical japanese maybe というのは would be best)
校長先生 principal
と and
先生 teacher
くらい about, but in this situation more close to "only" in meaning (in this situation it means like, that it is ONLY principal and the teacher they are talking about)
だ is
し maybe making a short list of things you put shi after things that you are using like a reason for something you are asked. so one of the reasons is this sentence, why she likes sensei...
"Well, the only ones taking their job seriously at this academy are him and the principal."
-
I agree with the above, but if I were to translate the line I would use the term "sane" for まとも, which is a little rough but closer in nuance and not so much of a mouthful.
"Him and the principal are just about the only sane people in this academy."
