Respawn: The New Activision
need proof?
http://gamestop.com/Catalog/Product/112378
Activision would be proud. step aside Ghosts, a new cash cow has arrived. what do you get for sacrificing an entire paycheck? a statue. because, you know, that really enhances the gaming experience.
the sad thing is gimmicks like this actually work, because hardcore XBox fanboys need the right to brag to other fanboys about how they begged their moms to pay $250 for a video game.

Am I the only one that thinks Titanfall is an awful game?

Re: Respawn: The New Activision
I collect figures, so if I had an Xbone or a decent PC I probably would have bought it.

Even then I wouldn't. You pay $190 for a $50/60 statue at best. Most likely the statue cost much less to make.

Not if it's limited.
people will overprice it just because of it.
People will sell posters for 70 dollars if they are super rare.

Yes they will. And there's a term for people who do that.

Colelctors?
The word idiot is subjective in this case.

when i heard a co-developer of Ghosts had a hand in it, i made that assumption without even playing it. i hate activision and everything it stands for (pumping out cookie-cutter games for maximum profit). the title of this thread speaks for itself.

Well, I was more thinking of moron. But idiot works too. And nah, I'm a collector and even I have bounds of reason. Let people have it. I can always go to a sculpter and have a much nicer statue made for the money.

you're a fool if you think anything about this release is going to be "limited". face it, you're paying $250 for an overhyped game and a statue that probably cost around 3 pesos to make.

It wouldn't be the original though and it wouldn't be a legit collection.
I would consider them morons if they don't set their priorities and spend money into their hobby over them.
You just reminded me of a friend who wanted to Buy a Halo Reach Xbox 360 Controller and my other friend called him a moron and told him he can obviously do it with a sharpie and make the same design.

Who cares? Why would I want an over priced trinket. That's like begging Capcom to charge me $10 for a pallet swap. I wouldn't have an issue if it was $120-150 but $250 is overkill and just gouging players. Why support that.

<Coming from the person who doens't know how CE works?
Show me a Collector's Edition that you can buy it NORMALLY and the things individually at a normal price.
I'll be waiting.
Once you actually felt the statue from a live observation and not based on pictures then you can argue. Obviously from just pictures you can tell it was made from crap.
Right now, it's just straight bias against the game so you have to hate everything about it.

Don't get the wrong idea that I WILL buy this.
But if people have the money to blow into their hobbies, why are they morons? That's my gripe. Does it affect you enough to call them morons? A person can buy five elephants and live in an apartment and while I think that's completely illogical I am not gonna call them morons if it's their "thing" and have the money to burn for that. Doesn't hurt me.
Damn, I forgot people can spend their money on what they want anymore.

I don't think they're morons if they spend money on their hobbies. Just if they support a company that's ripping them off. After all I do collect statues. I currently have a collection totaling near five grand.

I'm a moron for spending money I earn on items I want o_O? I pay 100 dollars+ on anime items. Why? I earned my money and love collecting.

Define: Ripping off in terms of money.

I mean, I'm not telling you have to like this specific item since I am not too big of a fan of it myself. (I would of if I really was into it) I just think if someone likes Titanfall a lot they can buy it.
I get your point that they COULD probably get a better replica made but at the same time, to me, that's like carving the rarest Yugioh card and calling yourself a true collector.
Hence why I said blow too.

Re: Respawn: The New Activision
@Yoko Littner Charging $130 more for a limited edition that generally would go for $120. Now something like the Arkham City Limited Edition was worth the money. It was $120. You got dlc, a bunch of trinkets, a documentary, art book and a statue that lit up. With this one you get the statue, a poster and an art book for $180 more. You tell me which one is ripping people off.
@Kaitou+ One way to look at it. But at the end of the day the only one that's going to see it is you and any company you have. Don't really feel the need to brag to the people I know.

Here is an example. I'm buying "Nisemonogatari" an 11 episode series for 180 dollars soon. Its an official release and Blu - Ray quality. It may seem insane for some, but those people are either jealous they can't afford it or stupid. My money. I earned the right to buy it.

Obviously the second. Ripping them off? Maybe, but I don't agree that makes them a moron. UNLESS its the same game you are talking about. Then yeah.

I just look at it and see a bad financial decision. You can get a lot more for the money. Even as a collector you have to learn when to pull your purchases. If you skip that you could get two other collector's editions for the same amount of money and get more out of it. And I can see the anime. But I put that in the same category as video games and I've spent $200 dollars on an old snes game. Though for that anime you can get the limited edition for $130 from an independent seller on Amazon.

As long as the person doesn't consider their collection authentic then there's no issues.
Also, it may be overpriced but that problem is that you are making comparisons. I would consider it ripping off if it was garbage quality. I just think it's all subjective.

What determines what's an authentic collection? If your collecting for prestige or some sort of achievement then you're doing it wrong.

Being from the original manufacture is what determines it. You're telling me I can download YGO Cards of Google and tape them and say it's my authentic collection of YGO Cards? Or pirate a bunch of movies and call it my collection of movies?
It can be your fake YGO Cards collection or your pirated movies collection but it's absurd to me to make them part of your authentic collection.
Carving your own collection is also doing it wrong.

Its really only a bad financial decision if buying the said item puts you in danger of going broke. What if you can afford it? Why pull your purchase if it won't hurt you in a financial way? That just sounds really absurd to me.
Buying from independent sellers comes with extra risk. Amazon will refund. Sellers tend to be tougher. Though, I've seen that offer already earlier and already put it into consideration.

Collecting should give the person some form of prestige. Why wouldn't I look at my collection as a trophy?
