Eden Zero, Season 1 (2021)
Do you remember Happy, that blue cat from Fairy Tail? Well, he’s back in a new series, though with a few enhancements. Actually, he is the sidekick of Rebecca, an adventure seeking video poster who is not the main character either. Explaining Eden Zero may take a while.
So Rebecca and Happy land on a robotic planet where they meet Shiki, the only human in that world. Escaping together, Shiki learns about friendship and wants to make friends with everyone he meets. Reality does set in quickly as he also learns the meaning of enemies. So basically, Shiki becomes a licensed adventurer who is on a quest to find Mother, some sort of goddess who can grant any wish. Cruising through space on a ship called Eden Zero, Shiki, Rebecca, and Happy meet new people, robots, and androids as the crew of the Eden Zero grows.
Oh, Shiki, as well as others, have Either power. Let’s just say it comes in handing during a fight.
OK. I did have some doubts about this series from half-way through episode one. Do we really need to see another series with Happy? He may not have been the most annoying character in Fairy Tail, but he did not miss that distinction by much. In case you haven’t noticed, I most certainly am not a Fairy Tail fan.
After episode two, I was ready to give up on Eden Zero. But I have this rule. Give every anime series five or six episodes before you give up on it. After all, some series do take a while to hit their stride. As it turned out, Eden Zero does have a variety of interesting characters, and a pretty good story line. No, this is not a classic. It pretty much is a recycling of a familiar formula. But it is also somewhat entertaining. Even recycling can be fun.
Eden Zero does not set any new standards in artwork or animation, but it really doesn’t need to. My guess is that this series was made for young teens, though older viewers may appreciate it.

You're welcome. Post your comments here after you have watched season one. Season 2 will be available at the end of next month.
Re: Eden Zero, Season 1 (2021)
Watched it a while ago. Much more solid than other stories from the same author. And funnily enough, there is a lot of stuff in common, particularly from Fairy Tail. On a side note, must be said that it is not a closed story yet, so we will have to see if it ends well and does not fall in the same problems as the previously mentioned. Please, authors, do not hesitate about killing your loved characters. And much worse, do not revive them afterwards if you do so, thank you.
Re: Eden Zero, Season 1 (2021)
Correction to what I said above. It is not season two which Netflix Streaming added. It was the second half of season one. It turns out season one has 25 episodes and they are now available. In fact, I just finished the remainder of the first year. And yes, season two is still coming.
So what about the second half of season one? It starts to wear thin, but soon the series takes on a darker edge, while not losing any of the comedy. There is a sense of loss and coping with that loss as Shiki and friends seek to unite the Four Shinning Stars. It is a nice mixture of comedy, tragedy, darkness, and light-heartedness.
Warning! Foul language! So keep the younger ones away.
