Re: The Original Simpsons
I have seen those, it's really interesting. Good that they got some designs and things worked out there. Though, Homer still sounded 'weird' for the first season or two. I mean, if you hear how he sounds most of the time and then hear the first few eps (I don't remember how many off hand) he sounds very different, was still finding his voice. But here, he sounded Waaay different, even from the first ep of the actual Simpsons. It's interesting to see how far they've come.
As far as old vs. new... It's funny, the Simpsons is a show from all my life (Well, on since I was 3) that sometimes I saw an ep here and there, and sometimes I didn't. I didn't dislike it, but I usually didn't go out of my way to see it. (Except when I heard Weird Al was gonna be on it, the first time.)

It's only been in the last 2-3 years I've really started to go crazy about it, and slowly watched every ep, over about a year. Seeing it that way, without nostalgia goggles, there is for sure a quality dip, IMO, but it dipped, imo, to still an okay/entertaning show. It may not be amazing anymore, but it's not garbage either, just my opinion. Having said that, if I had watched it regularly from the beginning, I bet I would agree with you more. But since I marathoned it all at once, it feels different.

Although due to some sort of contract obligation, he could not do his own singing.

All without those high-tech computers. In those days animators sweated over their creations.
