Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
According To ezine articles; taking deap breaths throught your nose 10-20 times a day can lengthen your life-span and keep your skin healthy. I have been doing this for a few days and i feel more awake, i didn't know it was this effective! I am a little surprised to say the least.. I mean i breath everyday but i geus it's how you take those breaths that make the diference.
Here is the article:http://ezinearticles.com/?Breathing-...ife&id=3078590
I'm not shure if it will show up as a link or not. So what do you guys think about this? Is this just common knollege and i'm just late to the party or is this news to you as well?

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
Doesn't the avarage person take that many deep breath threw the nose every day anyway, without having to think about it?
Anyway when they are sleeping? :s Or I'm not sure... For how long most the breating threw the nose take for it to count as "deep"?

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
Too bad my nose was damaged at a young age and doesn't work like it should.

Too bad I'm a fish. All I've got are gills.

You should always be skeptical about reports that DON'T CITE ANY GOD DAMN SOURCES.

Most of us don't breath right anyways. When you're exhaling/inhaling, your stomach/diaphragm should move and not your chest.

Just a slow extended inhale until you cannot inhale anymore, then hold it, and release slowly. AAAAH.. Refreshing. :)

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
Breathing 'properly' does help, similar to eating 'properly', sleeping 'properly', etc. Quality of air should also be taken into consideration.

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
Well, I'm always skeptical about articles like these. But if it works for you, then good for you. :)
I've always thought that breathing is just that, breathing. There's nothing to it. Although if I think about it, there's a warm-up exercise that we can do, and that's breathing in and out. Maybe that's what the article says? But I still see no correlation between breathing and lengthening our lives, except for good quality of air, like @EmperorLord said.

I'm already cursed by youth.

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
Deep nasal inhalation does in fact allow the body to get more nitric oxide, and the result is not unlike the feeling one gets from ingesting b-vitamins. Thus, it certainly helps to wake you up a bit. As for the other benefits, I’ve never heard of anything outside the benefits of wakefulness and stress reduction.

Agreed. It is probably the stress reduction that causes the "feel more alive" sensation. Stress is a real downer and some people just cannot handle it well at all.

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
Isn't it normal to breathe on average through your nose? :|

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
sounds like ye oldie placebo effect to me. in other words a load of crap that'll only work if you really believe in it. either way, i'm planning to die before i hit 60 so i'm already all out of s**ts to give.
Besides, should how well someone lived be determined by the number of years they survived? or should it be determined by the quality of the years they experienced?
bubble boy may live for 100+ years in his perfectly sterol living space. Jonny DGAF who partied and had himself the most fun life possible, but died at the age of 50, definitely had a richer and more joyous life.
To die with no regrets is what its about.
I'ma go the Jonny DGAF route.
I like metaphors, so here i go
You get much more satisfaction out of complete a small puzzle, than an incomplete large puzzle.
Nailed it!

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
As a qualified personal trainer, I would always instruct clients to breathe in through their nose and out through their mouth. The reason for this - like @Cross Avantgarde said - it brings more oxygen into our lungs. When we yawn it's our bodies way of getting more oxygen, not because we are tired. We FEEL lethargic because of lack of oxygen. So yes, deep breaths like that will make you feel more awake or 'alive'. Although I'm not convinced it would make you live longer, but it certainly can't hurt!

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
...citations anyone? Fuck it, clearly you're all liberal arts majors and don't know what it means to look up some god damn literature so I'll do it myself.
Page 934, in the Discussion sub-section ( http://chestjournal.chestpubs.org/co...4/930.full.pdf ): "The primary finding of this study is that most NO
production in normal human breath occurs in the uppermost portion of the respiratory tract, namely in the nose and/or a connected chamber (paranasal sinus)."
and here are the biological effects of NO: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biologi...oxide#Function
Was that so hard? Writers these days depress me.

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
A follow up study found that 100% of people who breathe die.

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
Taking deep breaths thru your nose actually won't do anything for your health. But it can make you feel better as it is kind of like meditation where you calm your mind. The rest of what you feel will also be contributed by the Placebo Effect.

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
I also heard breathing in general can increase your life span than not breathing
-
Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
Breathing will keep you alive, breathing properly will keep you alive longer.

Re: Lengthen your life and stay young by breathing through your nose.
I didn't know that either. I thought it was just good for cardio

Sounds really interesting - might give it a try.
