The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
This "thread" is about the very "annoying" phenomenon in which people put quotation marks where they do not "belong", so that the message becomes "suspect."

It just drives me "nuts." Excessive air-quoting is also to be discussed in this thread.

What does this "thread" want "us"to "do"?

Re: The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
Lol, I always get a kick out a the local police cars here, which actually have printed on the side:
To "serve" and "protect"
like, they have to at least try to do those things, but really don't want to.

Share "anecdotes" and "examples" of frustrating misuse of quotation marks.

The grammar on that sign is wrong. It should be "Employees must wash their hands". What the hell would "Employee" mean? One designated employee must wash their hands? Does the employee have to wash my hands before I can leave? What?
-
Re: The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
Dunno, maybe there only is a single employee. But then, putting up a sign is a bit excessive.

Maybe there is a guy there named employee and he needs to "wash hands"?

Re: The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
To be honest, I have never seen this, at least, not to this degree. I have used quotation marks for emphasis but only in situations where I couldn't switch to italics.
Those pics are just pure fail.

Re: The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
"I want it" to be a luzly thread, but sadly there are some non-luzly posts. (*cough points at Wio cough*)
Please "try to keep it in" the lulz mode "as long as you can". "It gets too hard" to find lulz in a thread filled with non-luzly posts.

Re: The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
What does that have to do with "misplaced quotation marks"?
-
Re: The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
After "reading" this "thread", I don't even "remember" where to "correctly" put quotation marks "anymore".
"thanks" guys.

My point is that you're making posts that are completely OT.

Re: The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
but it's funny and you can't talk about fails without Failblog.

This thread isn't about being funny. It's about misplace quotation marks. You could at least try to derail it into a different topic or pretend there is some relevance. Speaking of failure...
-
Re: The "thread" of "unnecessary" quotation marks
I don't "think" people are getting the right "idea" about this thread. Maybe they need a clearer "explanation".
