Yeah, it's an empty little cove of the internet. Not many thread or posts, but i just talk to some users directly at this point. There might not be much anime talks, but the people, they're still interesting to talk to.
Seems like it was still active just a year ago, i missed it by thaaaat much.

That's fairly easy, just smudge regularly, but then apply image, gaussian blur, blending mode lighten. Erase and play with opacity.

Try figure ground tags, like take a render of a character and drop them into a space. Like an anime girl in a warehouse and try to photo-manip it so she fits in there. Add various details to make it work like artificial lighting. Those are pretty hard to do, but they appear to be in favor. If you like a good challenge that is.

DA is a wonderful place to gather inspiration, but dont limit yourself to just tags and awesome art. Stock images, wiki entry images, advertisement colors, even just carrying around your phone and taking a quick snapshop is useful.

Good luck creating your own style. Unfortunately, copying other's style is just the name of the game.
Havent been to GFXR in a long long time. Isnt it interesting though how signature has followed the exact same pattern as modern art? First you had really high class stuff, then got more and more abstract until we reached this point where's it so abstract it doesnt make sense or have form. They literally went from making signature making that had an instrumental purpose, displaying a cool piece art for one's identity, all the way around to where it has no purpose at all and will never be worn by anyone. Is that cool?
Those 2 items are glitch art and minimalism respectively. The first can be done by using filters, like wave and displace. The second is just making things really really small on a near blank canvas.
