Katakana and Hiragana have completely different usages and are the written representation of sounds - there is no difference in how they are spoken, it's just a different character for the same sound. Katakana is generally used for words foreign to Japan. Hiragana is the first written language taught to young children, and is used for everything Japanese, unless Kanji is used instead. So which is used most? I'd say Hiragana, without a doubt.
