Okay, I have a Pentium 4 HT 524 3.02ghz would I see a increase in performance if i upgrade to a Pentium D 802 2.8ghz? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I have a Radeon 3870 and 2gb of DDR2.

Not a techie but your processor would take a hit off the bat since your downgrading from 3.02 to 2.8.

I'd remembered that you did ask the similar (http://www.animeforum.com/showthread.php?89450-Help-Hardware-CPU-help!!!!!) question but different CPU last year.

The obvious answer would be Pentium D because it has 2 physical cores compare to Pentium 4 which used Intel Hyper-Threading technology to virtualized the additional cores. Performance-wise, both of them are the similar if you're using your normally (office work/surfing/light or casual gaming). Unless you utilized the full computing powers on mathematical/scientific simulation or playing hardware demanding games, the performance from the upgrade is not noticeable.

Not necessarily. Clock speed is not directly related to actual performance anymore due to various internal voodoo. A modern 2 Ghz CPU will vastly outperform a 4 Ghz CPU from a couple of years ago.

you probably mean Pentium D 820 ... since 802 model doesn't exist.

anyway, Pentium D may perform better if your motherboard supports it and can work at 800 fsb.
