Playstation 2. No Contest.

Gamecube- for Children and Nintendoheads only. It has almost no 3rd party support, and what little it has releases games on X-Box and PS2 also. It has almost NO online play either. You can connect the GBA to the GC, but that's generally no more than a stupid gimmick.

X-Box- for Microsoft-Zombies and twitch-gamers only. I can't think of a single decent game it possesses that hasn't come out either on PC or another Console. It has a HORRIBLE controller, and when you look at the hardware, you notice IT'S A PC. Also the fact you have to pay $10 a month for X-Box Live is stupid.

Playstation 2- Although its hardware is arguably weaker than GC or XB, it possesses both most all the 3rd party support, and comfortable Ergonomics. They have a good online plan, and have a library of unique games that XB or GC would kill for.

...ok this is the last time i'm going to jump into this argument....seriously...

GameCube. Decent graphics and very fun games to play with four people. The downside....what if you don't have 3 other people to play with? Wanna go online? Too bad, ya can't. (and I'm talking overall here) How about watching a few of your favorite DVD's or listening to some music CD's? Nope can't do that either. Hmmm, what is this system good for then? Playing games and hooking up to the portable version of itself (GBA). And what about the games? Lets play another version of Mario? Yeah, that's right, we've all done that about 15 times before....

Xbox. Microsoft. Bill Gates.....*cringes*
How about stunning graphics, four player support, hard drive that eliminates the use of memory cards, and online capabilities...Oh wait, you actually have to PAY to play online games? Oh well, that's not too bad right. I mean they do have a large selection of online games right? Nope not really... Ok, lets watch our nice collection of DVD's...Oh wait, we gotta pay extra for just the remote in order to do so. Hmmm, so what do we do. Oh lets just play the most graphically beautiful games that have ever been made? Yes that's a strong point.....Oh wait, the damn thing just crashed right in the middle of the most important fight and I didn't save...lets move on shall we...

PS2. Mostly crappy graphics, older technology, shell out about a hundred bucks extra for the harddrive. So exactly what is the upside? Hmm, well we do have better overall functionality. Plays CD's, DVD's, and what were those really fun things that were popular in the mid to late 90's? Oh yeah, Hundreds upon hundred's of PS1 games. That's always a good thing. And how much is it to play online games? Free!!?!?! Yeah, that's right, the good ol' 4 letter f-word. (I mean free and not the other one :P ) Well, with the exception of FFXI (bastards) all the other games are free to play online...No matter how crappy some of them look and sometimes you periodically get kicked off some servers.

So what have we learned here? Everyone has their preference. You can't really argue which one is better or worse based on what you want. If you like fun games, go with GCN, better graphics Xbox, and all around functionality PS2. Just spare the rest of us by saying "It's better because I have one and that's all that there is" And to the rest of you, who like me have all 3 systems, I tip my hat to you.

Whatever happened to PC? All those systems are really just PCs with limitations on what you can do to them.

PikuNe: That reminds me I thought you, being a Linux-Addict, would be interested in This. (http://www.us.playstation.com/peripherals.aspx?id=SCPH-97047)
Consoles Have a few powerful advantages over PCs.

1.) Effortless interface. You open it. You stick a CD in it. You play it.
2.) Contollers are perfect for every type of gaming (Except Strategy and some RPGs, but Analog Sticks are still pretty good). Unless you have to type. But Consoles nowadays support Keyboards anyway.
3.) A good Deal Cheaper. Even if you build the computer yourself a few years after release, you still won't get a machine as powerful.
4.) Splitscreen is a good deal easier on a Console. Same thing with LAN.
5.) No Blue Screen Of Death. You don't run multiple programs on a console, so you error a lot less.

I own all three. There's no point in deciding which one is better, when you can have all three. However, PS2 has more games, and better quality storylines. Xbox has the graphics, but bill gates is trying to take over the WORLD. Gamecube has two good games, and after that, it sucks. Crystal chronicles is OK, not GREAT. Get a PS2, you'll have a good time with it.

Though all the systems are basically equal. I prefer to go with the PS2 cause it has a simplistic controller that has bilaterall symetry and it also has more game selection than the other systems.

I agree with oOokenshinoOo

Gamecube: sucks out loud. worst

PS2: good system, great selection of games, great 3rd party support, best controller, worst graphics however (plus mine was one of the first released and i have 6 siblings that like utting it through hell which makes it always say disc read error). 2nd best

X-Box: after hearing me say all those good things about the PS2 this might shock some people but the X-Box is my favorite. Sure it's controller may suck but i have gotten used to it. I can download my music onto it which is nice then play said music on GTA double pack. I didn't buy a system for a dvd player, i bought a dvd player for that. Plus it has beautiful graphics, no memory card needed, and has Ninja Gaiden!

I personally like GameCube, best multiplayer and also best first party games that are able to be produced with quality that isnt found in any other console. Online? Whatever...most online games are seriously better on the PC than most other platforms still. While it may or may not change in the future, the fact remains the same that online, is still king on PC than any other console.Zelda(new 3D one), and WindWaker..Smash Bros, Mario, Metriod, and etc. None other can replace it.

PS2 is pretty good, 3rd party support. But besides that Sony's own games are generally subpar and lack in quality. Namely its just who can buy their way to the top. But the wide selection of games is mainly what makes it so good.

Xbox...i personally have nothing good really to attract me, while Ninja Gaidien and Dead or Alive(not Halo, its on PC anyway), are great, this isnt worthwhile for me to go out and spend more money on a console. This is mostly PC games or games that dont interest me, so i basically have nothing really good to say besides that its the best spec-wise console out there.

Basically its opinion, you buy the console that fits your needs and wants. Theres no actual real winner, just opinions. No one console is better than the other in its own unique ways.
