My husband really loves FullMetal Alchemist and would like to find more series like it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm totally lost on this one....:p

That depends on what he liked about it.

Also, FMA: Brotherhood.

He probably liked Shou Tucker.

Buso Renkin is a decent substitute for super-duper shonen anime.

Just be warned: VERY GAY BUTTERFLY MAN AHEAD.

He's the best thing about that anime.

No question, you just need to know he's coming or you will run from that anime like the plauge.

That's true, he is rather nuts. Kinda like most of the members here. Though if it weren't for him the anime would just be a standard shonen.

He likes the whole alchemy and magic scene. Action is always a plus.

Well, Slayers is always a good start, but it's somewhat old.

Try Soul Eater. It's not as deep, but it's solid fun with some really inventive weapons and powers.

Fate/Stay Night (more combat oriented then magic)
Flames of Recca
Kaze no Stigma
Kiba
Law of Ueki
E's Otherwise
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi (No magic, just action and comedy. Does both really well too.)

All but the first and last one could just be considered special abilities. I don't watch too many magic based animes. The ones I do find tend not to interest me and are usually slice of life.

Baccano!- its about alchemy and there's lots of action as well as a good story. the alchemy isn't as flashy as FMA but more subtle, its short too- 13 eps.

Straight Jacket.- good old fashioned uber violence with magic mixed in. same feel as FMA but is much gorier, oh and it's only 3 episodes long.

Baccano is 16 episodes with the OVA, which you should count. Cause Graham is awesomely crazy. :3

Just off the top of my head:
D. Gray-man. Not really much alchemy in it, but a lot of magic (I think that demons are good enough to count as magic..) and fighting. The Asia arc is a bit.. slow though. Its pretty long though-103 or 102 episodes (Can't remember.).
Chrno Crusade- There is alchemy in it-not as flashy as FMA, though- and there is fighting. The ending made me cry though ;_;. I don't really remember how many episodes; somewhere between 20~ to 30~ episodes.
I'll see if I can think of any more. :3
