As you know, 3D films such as Coraline and My Bloody Valentine have been released on DVD and Blu-Ray and they have a 2D and 3D version of the film on the discs.

I am however uncertain how these work. My sister believes that you can watch them if you have 3D glasses but my dad disagrees and things you need those new 3D televisions to watch them.

Who is right and who is wrong?

Your dad is wrong. The 3D effect is created by displaying 2 different angles of the same sequence on a normal screen. The 3D glasses then merge them together creating the 3D effect.

Wearing 3-D glasses is a guilty pleasure. Sure it seems cool, but its dorky and outdated. What you just did is like asking whats wrong with cassette tapes when CD's first came out.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the 3D TVs either a) make it so you don't need to wear glasses or b) improve the quality of 3D visuals.
