So I was wondering about something. I have considered myself a writer for about 12 years now and have written many of my own stories both fan fiction and original fiction alike.

So the point of this topic is pretty simple. How long have you been writing for.

I've been writing poems since I was 6 or 7. Short stories since I was 8? Maybe. Books in composition notebooks since I was 10.

I've been writing ever since I started my poetry unit in 8th grade. It's funny how I dreaded it at first but now, writing poetry is one of my favorite things to do. :)

I've been writing since I was in elementary school. I got tired of reading it, so I started writing it. I haven't ever considered myself a writer though. I've been getting there though.

That kinda stuff can happen I never really liked it much when I was in school either but now I find it quite enjoyable.

Since I could form sentences, I suppose.

I have always been an avid reader and writer. I remember both exasperating and impressing my second grade teacher by being so far ahead in reading that she had to get reading material from several grades ahead to keep ahead of it. She gave me a copy of Bridge to Terabithia with a personalized note, which I still have somewhere. On the writing side, she used to encourage me to allow my writing to take me where it would. When my stories grew long and complex, rather than chastise me for creating too much she gave me hardbound books to write them. I still have those somewhere, as well. I was seven at the time.

I feel fortunate in always having English and writing teachers who appreciated my genuine interest in both reading and writing and whom encouraged me to move further. I was also fortunate to come from parents who love books and writing themselves. I believe I may still love both now even without the supportive atmosphere, but like any interest or skill it was cultivated all the more having had it.

I write shorts a lot and some flash fiction but for the last three years I have considered myself to be a script writer.

I think script wring can be fun at times, mostly cause you do not need to follow a lot of the writing rules but a new set of rules.

I have been writing fan fiction and originals for about 6-7 years and I haven't written much this year. I have also been writing poems and short stories every now and then.

Well, technically I've been writing since I was about five. That's when I learned to write sentences. <.< Though that's not exactly the question.

In truth, I never really enjoyed writing. I've always loved to read; my love for reading probably started when I was around 2 and my dad would read to me each night. Even still, I hated to write especially in school. I always found the writing prompts to be dull and uninteresting, and I never really ventured out on my own. I did the assignments, my teachers told me it was great. I hated when we had to switch papers and edit with partners because I would always get my paper back unedited. My mom was always criticizing my writing since she worked at a newspaper, while my teachers were praising me. I had absolutely no idea how to write well because teachers would tell me I was doing great while my mom told me I was writing badly- without telling me how to improve.

I started to enjoy writing about two and a half years ago but didn't really get into it until about 1 and a half - 2 years ago. The cause was my getting into manga. Because of that, I joined here and then I started to write and post poems while also reading them. Poetry on AF is what sparked my love for writing.

Kind of funny how much AF has actually changed me, lookin' back.

I've been reading for a long time, since I was a little kid, if it counts. Maybe started reading seriously when I was about 15. Been writing for about three years, for now, not counting childish primary and secondary school compositions. I cringe when I look back on those, really.

I've been writing since I was in kindergarten. I use to write awkward little stories about cats and dogs. Anymore, I write and then never finish. I've written fanfictions and novels, novellas, poetry of all kinds, newspaper articles... I can't tell you how much I've written.

hmm...I guess I started writing around the age of 9 or 8 when the stories I read wouldn't end the way I'd like them or go the way I'd like them to so I created my own uniques stories. I couldn't stop because writing gave me a chance to create another world a world where I wish I could live in. *sigh* if only we could write up our how our lives went -.-.

I've written stories since I was 9 years old, in about 2 months I'll be 20, the time I've written will be 11 years, I've started writing poetry at grade 9, at the age of 15 I started writing poetry. 11 years of writing stories without fan fiction and 3 years of poems.

So conclusion 11 years of writing.

I've done amateur poetry/creative writing since I was 7 or 8 so about 13 years. Since high school I've been more focused on professional writing like essays on morality and such and recently I've put some serious work in a few novels and short stories.

i've always struggled with writing because of my total inability to make stuff longer while still keeping it interesting and or repeating too much. however when i get a topic that i'm actually interested in it can turn out all right. overall on and off since i was 9 but have only produced 2 or 3 decent shorts/poems.

i've always prefered practical subjects like PE and tec to stuff like english

I've been writing short stories since I was 8, and at that time I wrote horror stories. when I was 11, I started writing romance novels, lol. But in my language. When I was 13, I started writing fantasy novels in English. When I look back at my work, it was full of grammatical mistakes, lol. Now I'm writing as a hobby, which is very rare since I have little or no time to write at all.

i can't really say i'm a writer.
i started really getting interested into reading at 8 years old and only really started writng poems and stories (which i never finish xP) at the age of 13 because i always concentrated more on my drawing and less on the writing yet i find i'm more into writing now since it's hard for me to draw (i struggle to get inspiration and that only comes when i'm depressed)

i've been writing since i started high school. It would be a way to escape from what was really happening and to get things out of my mind.
so i think i've been writing for about 5 or 6 years

I've been writing for seven years, and a lot of those are long stories, rather than short stories. (And pretty much all of them are a combination of fantasy/adventure/romance genres) XP
