running a lenovo g550 with windows 7 64bit. i'm looking for a 1tb or 1.5tb ex hdd . western digital and seagate are the two cheapest i've found. anyone have experiences with both? if not, i'd still like to hear about your experiences with one or the other.

Yes, I've had experience with both and both are superb. I lean towards Seagate, though.
Both Seagate and Western Digital are leaders in the storage industry, so they aren't no name brands with unknown history.

I have worked with both though more with Western Digital. I think WD is just a better brand over all though there is a lot of people to will say SeaGate is better. Honestly a Hard Disk is a Hard Disk it just depends on what you're looking for. For External HDD I'd go with WD though you might get even more perforence is you buy a WD hard drive and an enclosure and put it together yourself. It is really quite easy just a few quick screws and cables to hook up and you're done.
Good luck, and if you have any questions feel free to ask me.
