When the computer is left on with or without lid closed instead of sleeping the computer has to be rebooted ie. won't wake by pressing KB or mouse
HP Pavillion dv7
64 bit Win 7
4.00 gb RAM
Brand new (< two weeks old)

Turn off sleep mode in the settings and see what happens.

It may be a compont of Windows that has become corrupt or fragmented. Sometimes after you install a large software files can get mixed up and cause errors like that. you could try doing a system restore and see if that helps. If not you may need to reinstall Windows. Often this while taking a while is the cure of many problems. Just make sure you defrag the hard drive first if you can. Microsoft provides information on that on their site. I would also go to the HP Support Forum to see if anyone else who owns the same model as you has had the same issues.

As it happens when you leave it idle, it just screams power-management issue. So yeah, what Kie_D_K said.


Also, as it's a brand new computer, it may be some hardware problem. You may want to ship it back and have them check it out for you. Or trade it on warranty, or whatever.
