I've used an iPhone 3G for over a year and I say it's totally worth it. Everything you need, and more, in one device. The 3G S one is obviously better. Get one.

I have to agree. I love my iPhone 3GS.
Majority of the time you will rely on apps if not the given pre-set programs there such as safari, maps, weather, etc.
I dont know, but it's up to you. But my iPhone apps go absolutely endless.
My favorite one would be Peggle. =)

If you work for government agency or a full time college student, I'm not sure if the 6% and the 10% discount still applies up to this date, so just research on that. My little sister had gotten a college student discount when buying her 17in MacBookPro, but then that same day she also had gotten an iPhone 3GS. It's roughly $100.00 off from your purchase. Maybe it did apply at the total or not. I'm a bit different since I used my military discount.

And I high recommend you get apple care.
Don't laugh now. But if something happens to your iPhone, apple care will cover it for 1 year I think?

The iPhone has a 1 year warranty anyways. If anything happened to it during that year, they'd either fully fix it for you or give you a new one.

Thanks for the info.

I almost forgot, If you haven't gotten a back up external hard drive, best you set yourself up with one. There are -times- (as I've heard from friends who have the 2nd and 3rd generation iPhone) it freezes up once in a blue moon. You don't want to lose your songs/apps/games/movies in iTunes (if you have any). I usually back up my iPhone twice a month. I have my personal calendar in there which helps me keep track of certain things. I can not afford to lose those stuff in there.

No problem!

Whenever you connect your iPhone to iTunes, it back ups for you automatically anyways. o.o And if the iPhone froze on you, you can just reboot it and things will be back to normal. You wouldn't lose any data.

If iTunes didn't do the automatic back up for you for whatever reason, do it yourself as often as possible. You'd be dumb if you didn't, because things just happen.

Also: I don't know much about the cases for the iPhone it self, I just use the invisibleshield. I use to have the Agent18 until it broke. =/ No bueno.

I've had an iPhone 3G for over a year and I must say, best decision I've made.

Best mobile browser of them all. It is almost a desktop experience.
Best mail app.
GPS with maps.
Excellent and easy-to-use calendar
Has hundreds of useful apps for lots of different uses.
Has dozens of fun and critically acclaimed games
Best media player of any smartphone.
It is truly a pocket computer and not just a phone.
Highly recommended.

Though be careful with it, the screen is glass and while scratch resistant it'll break if it hit the ground hard. It broke on me and cost me $100 to replace.

Other smartphones to consider:
Palm Pre
Palm Pixi
Motorola Droid

GPS with maps.

I've always contemplated on getting the TomTom app.
But for $99.99, I had my doubts.
Do you know if it's just as good as a regular GPS system?
I know it's OT but I just had to ask.
Pm is nice too. =)

Haven't used it, I get by with maps and GPS, but there are plenty of reviews out there that should help you decide.

I know it is OT.
We prolly need an official iPhone OS apps recommendation thread here. There is over 140k apps on the App Store, finding your way thru them can be intimidating.

I used Tom Tom and it felt too slow for me. It's still a great app. I was surprised that I didn't need any sort of internet connection in order for it to work. But it was still slow. Maybe it works better on iPhone 3G S?

Also, there's a reason why they have sites where you could try these apps for free before buying them. =P

When the TomTom app came out I didn't think there was a free trial.

I had returned my Garmin back to best buys a month before the TomTom app even came out.
I think it's a coincidence. I need one now for road trips.
