So what will this year bring?

What challanges and controversial topics will be the major issues of the day? After all, if people never change, then so shouldn't the division of people on things that are debatable. I suppose what I'm asking for you to tell me, is what significant problems/issues the world will be facing 20 years from now.

The apocalypse happens 18 years before 2030. So it'd be a year of nothing. :p

I'll bet you 20,000 dollars that the world does not end at any point during the year 2012.

Apparently, by 2025 we should have a computer powerful enough to simulate the human brain...

That could have some interesting implications.

Well, as far as human/other-things rights go, around the year 2030 our discrimination against other peoples and lifestyles will be solved. But once robots become sentient in 2050, we'll have a lot of issues to deal with. If history has shown us anything, the religious and conservatives will be very anti-robot while the more "progressive" people will be pro-robot.

But no one will ever accept the zombies, and eventually teenagers with shotguns will enact the "final solution" against them, to stop their brain-consuming ways.

I'm pretty sure by that time Japanese people will be able to [REMOVED]. If Japan has taught us anything, it's that nothing is impossible when it comes to your fetishes.

By that time we'll have our first black, female, jewish, robot president just to prove Xero that we are NOT that discriminatory.

Your profile says you're 22. In 2030, you'll be 42-43.

well it'll be the year of my 40birthday

and possibly the start of my midlife crisis, after my successful rugby career, but then the start of my bleak life as an after dinner speaker

I'll be 50 in 2036. I'm stoked. Why can't it be 2036 already?

But the rest seems interesting.

I don't believe, however advanced the technology, true artificial, cognitive intelligence can be manifested in machines.

Unless a 3rd Twilight movie get out there.

In that case, the world shall end sometime next year.

In 2030 I'll be 38 so I don't care. If the world does end in 2012, oh well.

It would require a radical shift in computing technology. With current linear computing -- highly doubtful. But with something like quantum computing, don't be so sure. In fact, a large limit in current artificial intelligence is that it lacks the ability to do quantum-like superposition of calculations, something that would allow for much more brain-like computing.

Hahaha!!! Those were funny.

*Gets back to being serious* I don't think the world will end at 2012. Who knows when the world will end but God. Anyways, getting back to the topic. At 2030 I visualize people being more eco-friendly since they don't have that sufficient resources to satisfy their needs. Though technology might be more advanced. Speaking of which, I think kids in school have laptops/notebooks/netbooks for school supplies.

I probably won't live long enough to experience that year.... (I've been sick for years and I don't know my fate).

But there definitely won't be any roads in the sky with flying cars passing through. No midair crashes or floating domed cities. WAY too early for that.

Barring Extiction and contact with Aliens the world in 2030 will be like it is now, same problems because those have been the problems throughout the whole course of human history, poverty violence greed corruption Religon. perhaps in 2030 on a larger scale or smaller 1 but still the same problems. it's only 20 yrs from now, 20 yrs agor was 1990 and the problems now were the problems then.
