Ahh, has it really been four months since I last did one of these? Oops.

Again, text in red isn't in the lyrics booklet, but cribbed from another site that had transcribed it (into kanji/kana). Not sure whether to leave it in or not; I can't confirm its accuracy, but the "burning at the stake" part, at least, is sort of important to the story.

mujaki na egao ga airashii imouto wa
kami ni aisareta kara umaretsuki koufuku [shiawase] datta

My charming younger sister, with her innocent smile
Was born happy, because she was favored by God

hitori de wa nani mo dekinai kawaii tenshi
dare kara mo aisareru kanojo ga netamashikatta

She was a cute angel who couldn't do anything for herself
And was loved by all; I envied her

kiryou no warui watashi o awareminaide yo...

Don't pity poor, homely me
"I wish my sister [that girl], who makes me so miserable, would just die..."

The next morning my sister fell ill with a high fever
I'm sorry, God, I didn't mean that wish

zange ga todoita no ka yagate netsu wa sagatta
keredo kondo wa haha ga yamai no fuchi ni taoreta

Perhaps my repentance reached Him, for soon her fever lowered
But then my mother fell into the swamp of illness

haha ga imawa no toki ni nokoshita kotoba wa...
"-- imouto [ano ko] wa tanin [hito] to wa chigau kara onee-chan [anata] ga tasukete agete ne..."

In her dying moments, my mother left behind these words:
"Your sister [that girl] is different from other people, so her big sister [you] should look after her..."

When my mother passed away, our lives changed
To make a living, I worked from morning 'til night

mura no otoko-tachi wa yasashiku shite kureta kedo
mura no onna-tachi wa shidai ni tsumetaku natte itta

The men of the village were kind to us, but
The women of the village soon grew cold

mazushii kurashi datta kedo nukumori ga atta...
"-- kata o yoseai ikite'ta sorenari ni koufuku [shiawase] datta..."

It was a poor life we led, but there was warmth...
"-- We lived shoulder-to-shoulder; in that, there was happiness..."

Then why... why did this calamity befall us... tell me, God!
Wasn't the child my sister [that girl] was blessed with a child of God, sent by the Lord?

-- imouto ga kodomo o mikomotte iru koto ga hakkaku shita yoru
mura no otoko-tachi wa tagai ni kao o miawase kuchi o tsugunda
omoi seijaku o hikisaita no wa mimi o utagau you na hade na uchioto
shitateya no wakaokami ga imouto no hoho o haritobashita oto...

-- The night my sister was found to be with child
The men of the village looked at each other and held their tongues
What broke the heavy silence was a striking sound so loud I couldn't believe my ears
The sound of the young proprietress of the tailor's shop knocking my sister to the ground...

Adulteress... pathetic child... troublesome... ungrateful...

-- danpenteki na kioku... danzaiteki na basei...
aa... kono onna [hito] wa nani o wameite iru n'darou? kimochi warui
gurari to sekai ga yure watashi wa hajiketobu you ni wakaokami ni tsukamikakatte ita...

-- Fragmented memories... accusatory jeers...
Ah... what is that woman shrieking about? She makes me sick
The world shook, I grabbed at the proprietress...

akaku somatta shikai nigai tsuchi to sabi no aji zujou o tobikau kouron shinpu-sama no dosei

My vision was stained red; I tasted bitter earth and rust; the quarrel flew over my head; the priest's words were harsh

junketsu no... akuma no chigiri... wazawai no tane... MARIA-sama no... daremo GABURIERU o...hiaburi da

Purity... bedding a demon... seed of destruction... the Virgin Mary's... anyone, Gabriel... she'll be burned at the stake

"aa... akuma to wa omae-tachi no koto da!"

"Ah... you're the ones in league with the demons!"

-- soshite... imouto wa saigo ni "arigatou" to itta...

-- And then... in her final moments, my sister said "thank you"...

kokoronai kotoba kokoronai shiuchi ga dore hodo ano musume [ko] o kizutsuketa darou
soredemo subete o... yasashii musume [ko] dakara... subete o yurusu no deshou ne...

The heartless words, the heartless treatment -- however much they hurt that girl...
Even so, she would... because she was a kind girl... she would forgive everything

-- demo, watashi wa zettai yurusanai kara ne...
kono yo wa shosen, rakuen no daiyouhin de shika nai no nara, tsumibukaki MONO wa subete, hitoshiku hai ni kaeru ga ii!

-- But I can't forgive them...
So if this world is, after all, only a poor replacement for Paradise, and we are all sinners, then we should all return to ash!

-- hadashi no musume kooritsuku you na hohoemi o ukabe
yurameku honoo sono yami no mukou ni "kamen no otoko" o mite ita--

-- The barefoot maiden wore a smile that seemed frozen
Beyond the darkness and the flickering flames, she saw the man with the mask--

Awesome t/l.

The one thing that bothers me is the multitude of errors in the translit... please revise that part of the thing beforehand. You probably did it half-asleep.

orz, when will I learn not to transliterate things in the middle of the night? Or at least to wait to post them 'til I'm more awake and can re-read them and catch my errors? I'll fix that up.

>Perhaps my repentance reached him, for soon her fever lowered
Capitalise "him"

>So that we could live, I worked from morning 'til night
"To make a living" sounds better

>junketsu no... akuma no sagiri...
'chigiri'

Advanced Mode

>Even so, why... why were we treated so cruelly... tell me, God!
I don't know how to put this but... the 'zankoku na shiuchi' is describing the one big event that happened in the lines after (note 'kono'), your trans is probably placing this in the wrong timeframe.

>Ah... what is that woman shrieking about? I don't feel well
I know that is the correct translation but just "not feeling well" doesn't sound like she was driven to the point of retaliation. If you take the word 'kimoi' and think of something as insulting in English, to me that would be the better option.

Thanks!

>the 'zankoku na shiuchi' is describing the one big event that happened in the lines after

I figured as much, but I can see how it wouldn't be clear in the translation. The thing is, I'm not sure how to make it clearer. (If I said "why did they do this to us," would that be taking too much liberty?)

>I know that is the correct translation but just "not feeling well" doesn't sound like she was driven to the point of retaliation.

Yeah, I knew that didn't feel right, but again, I couldn't think what to say, so I went the overly-literal route as a sort of placeholder. I'll think about that one too.

(If I said "why did they do this to us," would that be taking too much liberty?)What was on my mind was some sort of "why suddenly, this shocking turn of events?" only that it's only one event but... yea. I'm basically wanting to get the delivery of the storyline twist right.

To put that more literally,
But then why, why had such a painful calamity befell us? Oh God please tell me!
or something in a smoother choice of words, taking out the plurality.
