Regarding the layout you designed::

The checkered background is VERY disturbing and is attracting attention to itself. That should not be happening. Lose that thing and use something a bit more sober. If you still want checks, then go for it. But keep it all pale. the background should not steal the attention from the header.

For the header::

mmm...It's pretty. But empty.
So there's a PC with a girl jumping out of the screen. I had to look thrice to make that out. I think it's better you enlarged it. By enlarge, I mean the extract and the entire header itself. There's nothing wrong with a large header. Add in more effects. One nice one would be to get the design of the header to blend into the "updates" section.

I like the flowers you put in. The checks look nice on them <33333

I like the site layout - lookin' good in pink, I must say...same for your website themed sig. I like the bright colors, and the white text looks pretty good with the colors.

I really like the Lady Independent layout. I'm not actually sure why, except it looks very peaceful and calm. The girl is really pretty, I love her parasol.

Yep, I know they take time. I`ve actually tried making layouts, but for my youtube channel XD
You need to figure out how big things in the bg should be to fit perfectly.

But it's boring overall. Nothing much to it. I like the text part though.

I used MapThis when I made my first imagemap :P
I did try Frontpage once, but that was too hard, thats what some pro webdesigners use :P

~Try GIMP...this programme is easy. If you have got CS7, you can do Image-Mapping there as well...stupid CS3 has not that feature T.T

I think the layout is really beautiful, the colours are nice and bright, but not too over done. It is very attractive but still simple, althought I think the background should prehaps be plain white.
It looks alitttttttttttttle clashy but it's ok if you don't want to change this!
