So, does anyone here play War3? Either the original or the expansion, it doesn't matter. On the off chance that you do, do you play ladder? Custom maps? Which ones?

Hoping to find fellow rts or assorted geek here.

I was thinking of re-buying it but was wondering if many people still play online?

Well, with the oncoming of Starcraft 2, it's still declining. However, as long as DotA exists, Warcraft 3 will remain alive. Ladder is still played as well as many other maps.

Well, these days all you need is a CD key. I believe you can get them online for like 10 bucks or something.

LEGALLY.

I haven't played tree tag in ages =/ No one hosts it, no one wants to be an infernal, and it's generally unfair to the infernals.

How good are you at DotA?

I have played it though not for a long time about 8 months. I enjoyed though I felt the basic game plot was a tad bit off like it didn't have much of a plot.

Game plots are generally worked differently than story and movie plots. While stories and movies have free reign on their plots, games need to format a plot that allows the designer to create playable levels that are unique and interesting to a gamer. Sure, the plot becomes a bit contorted and awkward, but it makes the game better. You have to remember that Warcraft III was designed with competitive play in mind, and not for a Cinematic award.

Anyone who's gone on battle.net has seen DotA. You play it? I've been playing it for a while, but I'm still sort of bad. It could be because I use Balanar. He only rapes at night.

I actually know IceFrog =D He's an administrator on the forum of another map called Island Defense. Since I used to be a beta tester and a moderator there, I was sort of acquainted with him.

I haven't seen any confirmation at all the DotA was going to be in wcg. Isn't that just a rumor? DotA, after all, has no support from Blizzard.

I've been playing since guinsoo was in charge of it. If you think you're bad, you should play an easier hero. Balanar is definitely a more advanced hero and is very item dependent.

Its always better to get very good with one hero than being average with many. Especially with the # of heroes & diff items and hero combinations nowdays, it takes new players a very long time to get very good.

the game is a classic or soon will be. But I do think the players on there should be a tad bit more mature.

Dont worry about Starcraft 2 its been changed to come out in 2011 and I read that it wont be as good as Warcraft3 and its expansion Frozen Throne till 2015 so nothing to worry about.

Blizzard is working to hard on their on going success of World of Warcraft Cataclysm. Its just a waste of time wasting it on nonsense (warcraft 3)that will never be as big as world of warcraft.

That's a really silly thing to say. How you can believe something like that is beyond me.

You don't get that the original basis of WoW players were/are Warcraft (RTS/RPG) players, do you? Do you understand the fact that the stories set up in the Warcraft games have their plots carried out in finish in World of Warcraft?

EXAMPLE: "Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (http://www.wowwiki.com/Warcraft_III:_The_Frozen_Throne)" comes out, setting up and telling the story of the Lich King (http://www.wowwiki.com/Lich_King) (Arthas Menethil (http://www.wowwiki.com/Arthas_Menethil) with the runeblade Frostmourne [which has the soul and power of the old/original Lich King (http://www.wowwiki.com/Lich_King) sealed in it]) and how he was once a noble Prince of Lordaeron (http://www.wowwiki.com/Lordaeron), and how he ended up turning on his own people and killing them and converting them in to undead or Scourge (http://www.wowwiki.com/Scourge), as well as forging and alliance and then soon after breaking his pact with Illidan Stormrage (http://www.wowwiki.com/Illidan_Stormrage), and taking over the continent of Northrend (http://www.wowwiki.com/Northrend) and ruling, waiting to continue his plans.

Now, take the most recent released expasnion, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (http://www.wowwiki.com/World_of_Warcraft:_Wrath_of_the_Lich_King). It ultimately builds up to a show down with the Lich King that you and your party members carry out, all the while finish the stories and plots that had been set up in the RTS/RPG games, revealing the fates and destinies of characters that play major parts in the story.

The massive legion of followers and fans of Warcraft made the development and success of World of Warcraft possible. WoW might be getting priority over Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo games being completed and published, but it is because of the people that play those games that it WoW is as big as it is. I really can't think of any way to be more clear about it.

The only other thing I think I could say is that you're wrong, and Warcraft in a sense gave birth to World of Warcraft, and that expanding on Warcraft III may be done with, but that is not to say that there won't be a Warcraft IV.
