If this thread isn't supposed to be here. Crap, sorry.
I'm suprised there isn't a thread about this yet.
I just wanted to know what everyone thought about it.
The Japanese and the English version. 0:
You think Noah and Frankie did the characters justice?
Idk, I'm suprised I wasn't aware of this before.
Haha, when I heard about it, I was like "Holecrap. -watch online-"
Then I got tickets to see the English version and I saw it the night it came out.
I actually thought the two did a good job with the character's voices. :D I lovvvvvved it.
It was the cutest thing ever! I was bouncing in my seat the entire time. Now I need a plushie or something like srsly. =l

i think there's a thread for this in the anime part of the forum. I'm going to see this tomorrow with the family (my family LOVES Miyazaki) and some friends. I'm kind of surprised by the simplicity of the art style. a lot of solids with not a whole bunch of shading, but i'm sure it looks great in motion
I'm not going to watch it. I'm not a huge fan of Miyazaki. Plus I generally don't like movies about little kids.

I saw it today, and I have to say if you're a fan of Studio Ghibli's other work (Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away), then I highly encourage you to see this movie. It did not disappoint: appropriately cute, confusing, tripping, and awesome all at once. I found the whole story refreshing, the animation spectacular, and the storyline pure and cute.

i saw this last night and really enjoyed it. Its in the vein of Miyazaki's more kid oriented works, so expect something more liek My Neighbor Tottoro instead of Spirited Away/Princess Mononoke. The animation starts out kind of weird, with some INSANELY low framerates going on that left me scratching my head, but it definitely picks up after the opening scenes.
the movie is unflinchingly adorable and really fun, check it out!

I've always been a huge fan of Miyazaki' work(:
I could watch Spirited Away over and over again. x]
Anywho, it looks soooo cute! I don't know if I'll see Ponyo is theaters or not.
I might just wait until it comes out on DVD or something.
Ponyo is cute!!!
Although I don't approve of underage relationships. A-hum.
Yes, Ponyo's japanese voice actress did her justice; her voice is cute to the extremes :3

I found Gake no Ue no Ponyo vaguely disturbing. The scene where the town is entirely submerged in water was especially haunting.
Frankly, I thought the movie was marketed in entirely the wrong way; in fact, it is potentially one of the most sophisticated movies by Miyazaki so far. I mean, how many kids would have appreciated the Ophelia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophelia_(painting)) reference, or the allusion to Soseki (http://www.amazon.com/Kusamakura-Penguin-Classics-Natsume-Soseki/dp/0143105191)?

My best friend and I are dying to see Ponyo. Hopefully it'll be sometime this week.
I've seen the trailer and it looked promising. The characters are utterly cute and the story seems interesting. I'm a huge fan of Miyazaki's works.

Okay?
The film has received great critical acclaim. As of August 16, 2009, Rotten Tomatoes reported that the film has a "certified fresh" rating of 93%, based on 86 reviews (80 "Fresh"; 6 "Rotten"), with an average score of 7.7 and a Top Critics' score of 91%. The consensus is that "While not Miyazaki's best film, Ponyo is a visually stunning fairy tale that's a sweetly poetic treat for children and Miyazaki fans of all ages."
On its opening weekend in North America it made $3,506,000 on 927 screens, which is a per screen average of $3,782. It also opened at number nine at the US box office.
The Japan Times gave the film four out of five stars, and praised the film's simple thematic elements and its visual scheme, and compared the film to Miyazaki's classic animation My Neighbor Totoro.
Anime Diet cited the quality of the translation, noting, "The story and the core of the film was communicated more than adequately through the professional dub and it did not get in the way of the sheer delight and joy that Miyazaki wanted to convey." Citing "slight pacing problems," it gave Ponyo a rating of 88%.
Critics at the Venice International Film Festival generally had high praise. Wendy Ide on Times Online said Ponyo "is as chaotic and exuberant as a story told by a hyperactive toddler," and gave it 4 stars out of 5. Movie critic Roger Ebert gave the film four out of four stars, the highest rank on his review scale, stating that, "There is a word to describe Ponyo, and that word is magical. This poetic, visually breathtaking work by the greatest of all animators has such deep charm that adults and children will both be touched. It's wonderful and never even seems to try: It unfolds fantastically."
Ponyo was an entrant in the 65th Venice International Film Festival. It received a special mention in the Venice Future Film Festival, for "the high artistic and expressive quality of animation able to give form to wonderful imagination of the worldwide cinema master".
In 2009, Ponyo won five awards at the 8th annual Tokyo Anime Awards. The awards included "Anime of the year" and "Best domestic feature". Miyazaki received the award for best director and best original story, and Noboru Yoshida received the award for best art direction.
The film won the awards for Animation of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Music at the 32nd Japan Academy Prize.

I saw it yesterday, and thought it was adorable! =)
I loved all the water scenes, and found the father (whose name I cannot for the life of me remember....) quite an entertaining character.

Omg,
I loved that movie! I love all of hayo miazaki's films. I think that Noah Cyrus and Frankie Jonas did a good job. But it made it feel less anime-ish to me since they had to be the lead roles... but i really liked it! "Ponyo wants ham!"

I saw it twice in Tokyo and just saw it in the U.S. last week. I think that Disney usually does a good job with the dubs, but the voice actors seemed unable to agree on how to pronounce Ponyo. They switched between "Ponyo" or "Panyo" @.@ And the version of the theme song at the end was strange. When it started to sound like techno or something!
Also, what a terrible mother Lisa is!

I only saw the English version, but I thought it was amazing. Great characters and it was really fun to watch. Maybe a little slow at some parts, but overall it was excellent.

I love the lyrics~ :D
It's on my myspace. XD
