hey guys
I'm doing a major school project, I'd love it if you gave me your thoughts on sexuality in anime, specifically in the depiction of women. What do you think women usually represent in anime, why do you think this is, etc. Just any thoughts you have on the topic would be really helpful :)

Thanks!

oh, and by anime I'm referring to all demographics - female oriented, male oriented, and for any age. Just a generalization regarding all the demographics.

You seem to be posting the same thread on different boards. Don't. Since I suppose this is the correct board for the question, I'll answer you here.

As I've frequently referred to before, probably the most comprehensive scholarly study of anime available in English today is University of Texas professor Susan J. Napier's "Anime from Akira to Howl's Moving Castle: Experiencing Contemporary Japanese Animation". You can probably find a copy of her book at a college library; it's definitely essential reading if you want to read up on anime and sexuality. I especially recommend the following chapters:

-Controlling Bodies: The Body in Pornographic Anime
-The Enchantment of Enstrangement: The Shojo in the World of Miyazaki Hayao
-Carnival and Conservatism in Romantic Comedy
-Princess Mononoke: Fantasy, the Feminine, and the Myth of "Progress"

Don't school projects usually require you to give your opinions. Unless this is one of those survey type things of the populace in which case shouldn't you have made some sort of poll to show that you've thought about this?

Don't just try and get others to do your work for you!
