View Full Version : How pimp is your computer?

It's well established that your computer hardware is directly proportional to your value as a human being, as well as adding directly to the length of your phallus by it's price tag in hundreds of dollars (in inches).

The main pimp-factor in my computer setup is the screens: 24" wide screen (1920x1200) next to a 21" 4:3 screen (1280x1024). <== The desk space these take is pretty ridiculous. You almost need binoculars to see the 4:3 screen.

Computer itself is a white box (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_box_(computer_hardware)), consisting of:
CPU: Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (2.6 Ghz)
Memory: 2 Gb generic.
Harddrives (0.93 Tb in total): 160 Gb IDE + 160 Gb SATA + 640 Gb SATA
GPU: GeForce 8600 GT

I have a laptop and no its is not "pimp" its is a stock HP Pavilion DV 6500 except that i put in a 3gb Ram, and a 500gb hardrive... For some unknown ungodly reason, even before i put in the Ram (it was a 2gb before) it plays WoW like a champ.. Like a desktop but better in my opinion (WoW portable is just bad ace to me... lolz im a nerd..)

Eh, not very pimp. It's a Toshiba Satellite U305-S7467 (http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Toshiba%20Satellite%20U305-S7467:1995042000) Laptop, Vista home premium, 2GB ram, 200 GB capacity, 1.66 GHz.

It's fast and works fine for what I use it for, anyway.

I built my computer, so I made sure I got a decent-looking case, full sized and four fans for good cooling. Of course, the fans are a little noisy. My system sounds like a miniature jet trying to take off. Performance-wise, it's pretty decent. Though I feel I should upgrade to a Phenom soon.

Your not missing much.

Without a hefty student discounts at a university or art school, apple computers are not worth it. Other than the desktops, I really dislike their laptops.

You can get a better and cool looking computer with the same specs for a cheaper price than that, and a free upgrade coupon for win7 when it is released.

How coincidental, I recently put a caterpie sticker on my Mac to hid the scratches that annoy me.

Macs are the Eminems of computing. Decidedly not pimp at all. PCs however may or may not be from the streets. Most are not (you can't be hood and run Windows Vista, for example), but some are.

Haha, I know. I was just making that joke to sound like a random fanboy. I have both here, as wel as XP as Mac.

I honestly have no idea about the specs of my laptops, so I'm just going to say they're pimp because I have them. Yeah. *nod*

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00GHz)
2x NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (Because one graphic card is totally uncool)
DVD Writer
DVD Drive
Saitek Cyborg Keyboard

Wireless-N Network Adapter
4 GB Memory

I don't need a second monitor for my computer, because I have the ultimate accesory... a laptop next to my computer.

Whatchutalkinbout? Clearly Vista is OG, it grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and nobody loved it. It only became the new OS because it destroyed the other contenders with a measured combination of phat beats, tight rhymes, and .45 slugs.

See, now I know you're doing it to be obnoxious.

My brother just got an Alienware computer. The thing is a beast. I don't know all the specs on it, but I know that it cost half of what I paid for my Jeep. He's running Guild Wars, WoW, plus a couple other things simultaneously at their highest resolutions on it simultaneously just to see what all it can do, and so far this thing's unstoppable. It actually frightens me a little...

My computer is so pimp it forces lower class women to perform sex acts on men in exchange for money, and then takes a large cut.

Its black and Gold lapop with a GeForce 930m GS Graphics card and 4Gigs of Ram. Not to mention the 224G memory it has. But sadly its a Vista so I cant play all of my games without it crashing in about 5 minutes. Oh, and its an Asus.

My computers not pimp at all infact its a b****, I have to smack it a few times before it works propperly. Its really old, I still use AMD atholon 3200+ 1.5g ddr400 ram, one 250 gig and one 80 gig hard drives, 86GT graphics card, but it can still splay most new games and I can watch my anime so I'm happy, but I'm thinking of upgrading to i7 or AM3.

ATM I have like .... 6 computers in a working state and 2-3 in parts scattered around my room ... 2 out of the working ones are laptops so I can't really categorize them as "pimped" XD.
The other will be going through some sorting and reconfiguration as soon as I finish with exams. Still dunno how I'm going to set them up, but for sure one is going for a data server, one for my parents and one is staying in my room.
The comps vary from a Celeron 333 to a c2d (dunno the version of it since I got it like ... for "free" and didn't have the time to actually check that). I guess I'll be keeping the c2d for myself :D
Server is probably gonna be a Sempron 2800+, and my parents are getting the old Athlon XP 2600+ xD

My primary tower is a MicronPC ClientPro 365 with two IDE hard drives, one at 40GB and one at 80GB, the latter of which is held in place partially with electrial tape. Some of the threaded holes are just holes now, so it's necessary. It has 512MB of memory, and it has a SATA DVD writer. The monitor is 19" diagonal, and can handle 1280x1024 resolution, but I usually keep it at 1024x768 for my eyes and because it better approximates a full screen resolution (4:3 versus 5:4), compensating for some goofy programs I have.
The processor is a Pentium 4 HT, running at 3GHz even.
The fans at startup sound like a large, dangerous powertool, but they quiet down a bit after the system starts to boot.
All in all, a decent computer provided I ever get around to upgrading it. For now, though, it's just adequate.

I have a laptop, but it's even worse. It's an IBM ThinkPad T22, and it has specs you might expect from 2001. It has a 20GB IDE HDD, a 900MHz Pentium 3, 128MB of memory, and only one USB 1.1 port. It does, strangely, feature a DVD drive.
But it was cheap!
I run a slightly customized Puppy Linux (http://www.puppylinux.com/) 4.1.2 on it, mainly since it was the only OS I could find that would run on the heap, look decent, and, bonus points, it was free. As it turned out, it's my favorite OS now.

I also have a Dell Optiplex tower I rescued from someone's garage which I use to run old hardware into the ground for giggles. CD-ROMs from before 1996 are ok, but hard drives manufactured around '94 or '95 make the loveliest, most hilarious noises when they finally destroy themselves, especially if/when pieces break loose and rattle around the case. Usually, though, I have to severely compromise them before they fly apart instead of just grind, squeak and scream apart inside their own little cases.
I'm working on a 2GB Maxtor and a 3.2GB Samsung as we speak. Surprisingly, the Samsung, made in '96 for eMachines, is still pretty reliable, and I have a copy of Puppy on it, and it runs flawlessly.
For now... FWAHAHAHAHA!

The main reason for my pitiful computers is my miserly nature. I figure if I'm not afraid to buy a used car, I shouldn't wory too much about rebuilt computers. The savings are worth it to me, but you have to know what you're doing.

My main system.

nVidia 8400 GS
2 Gigs of DDR ram
17" flatscreen Monitor (original)
Intel Celeron CPU 2.53 GHZ (original)
Optical mouse. (It may not have the balls but dammit it works better and requires less cleaning if needing any at all.)
HDD's: 166 Gigs. External 111 GB, internal 55 GB (I had two hard drives crap out. One was the original that came with this computer 4 years ago 80 gigs and the other is some 15 gig I pulled out of an old 98)

I plan on getting a new PCI graphics card soon and new hard drives. I'll probably hunt around for a new keyboard, like the original one I had where you couldn't hear tapping of keys.

And new/bigger speakers, the replacements I bought are crappy and can't handle any noise deeper than a mouse fart.

Older parts I remove from this one go into the secondary computer.

I just built it this year so it's still a baby.
