Oh hey, BAAF's back with a new, less hilarious-sounding abbreviation.

I shall make an exceedingly rare public appearance on Sunday, possibly Saturday as well but not likely.

If I can get like five other people to do it with me, I'll go as a Reaper from The World Ends With You. Specifically, I'd be the Reaper Review guy. Red hoodie.

I am aware it's a video game and not an anime, but there is a manga. That should count for something, right? Is that, like, bad cosplay form or something? I'm a total noob when it comes to cosplay etiquette.

awesome. i'll probably be going as either Kyon from The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya or as Lelouch from Code Geass.

Ahh, sponsored by Kinokuniya.

Roping in otaku and charging 30% more becuase the staff is Japanese for over 30 years now.

I heard this thing last year was very boring.

Boring in what way?

From a Japanese point of view.

A friend of mine is a journalist for one of the local Japanese newspapers and he covered this event last year for the obvious reasons.

First, he was amazed at the lengths some American anime fans would go to show they loved a particular anime, i.e. the cosplaying.

He knew that anime was big here, what he saw there was "kowai" in his opinion. The whole thing was laughable to him and his colluege.

If this thing really is the "evolution" of BAAF, I wouldn't be surprised if last years NYCAF sucked royally. The two years I attended BAAF everything was done in half-measures, and the one entertaining and memorable thing that happened was when some kids switched the men's and women's room signs.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if this year's sucked royally too. NYCC rocked face two years in a row though, so hopefully the anime conventions realize that the bar for geeky conventions in NY has been raised significantly.

Saddest thing is that NYC has so many Japanese persons living here people who really cared about the genre could benefit from their presence so much more.

If it weren't for the fact that Nihonjin tend to shy away from American otaku and laugh at them. Number one thing they ask me is why do we like anime.

Honestly? I wonder that myself when I look at some anime fans here in NYC. Jesus, if you've ever spent any time down by Canal St. in Manhattan on a Friday night it makes me want to run around punching people. Some folks are really cool, others are... well... this guy. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do8Ue47TIZ8) It hurts me a little bit to admit I know this guy. He owes me, like, seventy bucks, the lazy moocher.

I mean I enjoy something regardless of nation of origin, and I'm always in the market for an excuse to buy brightly colored crap, so cons are perfect for me in that respect.

Why the hell would I want to be on Canal on a Friday night?

Nothing there.

Anyway, for laughs I sometime check out the manga section at Forbiden Planet or Toy Tokyo in the east village. It's never a dull moment.

I've got class so I can't deal with this now. Locking the thread. Will be re opened once I have sorted it all out. Please do not create a new one.

Ah, I'll take over watching this thread o_o;

BAAF has no relation to NYAF, and I've been to every one of both of them. They are run by different companies, and the NYAF is run by the same people who do the NYCC. They will also be running the east coast PAX next year, which will be in Boston.

And while they do have some events at Kinokuniya, they aren't really a major sponsor of the event from everything I am aware of.

Oh, they do good work. I rescind my earlier prediction that it will suck.

It's just the NYAF, not the NYCAF, and yes, I will be there. I am not going by myself though O_o;

I am only going on Sunday as of the now, as I have work Friday and Saturday. Who knows, maybe someone'll need a favor between then and now and Saturday will free up. Friday's a big negatory no matter what, though.

However, Sunday I'm more than willing to meet up with folks and say hay/wander about whatever's left.

Just so you know, Sunday is the more expensive day to go.

Like the comic con, Friday is the cheapest day with Saturday and Sunday being more expensive. They offer a 2 and 3 day pass for the thing if you're planning on attendintg more than one day. Since they count on the fact Sunday would be busier they bang you for a few more bucks.

As I said, I'm working the other two days. I don't have much of a choice, and I'm not LOSING income just so I can go spend money. That's ridiculous.

Um no, please don't post mis-information.

Sunday tickets aren't expensive, and Sunday isn't the biggest day. The convention is half-day on Sunday, and it costs as much as Friday does. Saturday is more expensive, and the convention has all of their events going on on that day. You can even go to their site right now to confirm.

Friday tickets are $35, Saturday tickets are $40, Sunday tickets are $35, and Weekend tickets (good for all three days) are $55. At the Javits Center, all tickets will be priced $5 higher. They don't offer a two day pass either, its either a weekend pass, or single day passes.
The prices for the New York Comic Con are the same also.
