I really like this song, but it was hell to translate. Uh, no pun intended (though I guess it's about Hades, not Hell, so... anyway, I'm getting off track, here). So basically, this was quite difficult, and I'd appreciate any suggestions!

「如何にして楽園の扉は開かれたのか・・・」

"ikaga ni shite rakuen no tobira wa hirakareta no ka..."

"How did the door to Paradise open?"

鬱蒼と茂る暗緑の樹々 不気味な鳥の鳴き声
ある人里離れた森に その赤ん坊は捨てられていた

[1] Not sure of my translation of 人目を憚るように. I mean, I think I get what it's saying (her parents don't want anyone to know that they had a "defective" albino child, I guess), but I'm not sure I'm conveying it effectively.

[2] No idea how to transliterate this name -- just took a wild stab at it. While we're at it, I have no idea what to do with the girl's name either.

[3] 流れる以上 confuses me. I'm also not sure of my translation of the following line.

[4] God, I hate the vulgar/insulting forms of "you" so much. I can never figure out how to translate them so that they don't sound lame, but also don't involve swearing.

[5] Not sure what 巣喰う means. Also, not sure how this stanza fits together grammatically. I think all the commas are throwing me off.

[6] Yes, "devoured" is poetic license.

[7] I can't really figure this line out -- I don't know what to do with the つながれた.

Perhaps "eerie cries of birds" instead?

You translate this as "remote," but perhaps "far from civilization" would be more accurate?

Goo gives "さしさわりがあるとして、さしひかえる。遠慮する。" which I take to basically mean "avoid." So literally, the above is "to cause (other) people's eyes to avoid." Your translation is probably as good as any other.

Without anyone knowing (/all by itself?), the story surrounding the two paradises begins. (/the curtain opens on ~)

It would be -- I would have done it that way except that, embarrassingly, I couldn't think of the word "civilization" while I was translating it. Which is, I guess, what I get for trying to translate at 2 AM.

Well, I meant "her tears don't dry" in the figurative "she doesn't stop crying" sense, but I suppose I can see how it would be misleading in this context.

Quite possibly; the singer clearly says "hiraita" anyway.

And that's a typo of my own, it seems. I really don't proofread these things carefully enough; I should stop relying on AL forumers to do it for me.

Wow, I totally missed this thread (I saw the "ERU no Ehon" at the head of the title and moved on thinking there's nothing new) but I posted a reply in animelyricsanon a little while ago. I'll repost it here since I find the forum format easier to work with.

What the line is saying that as long as time flows, it too obeys the same rules as the rest of creation (i.e. "all things are in flux; nothing stays the same forever").

It might help to see オノレ not as a form of second-person "you", but a colloqial phrase used to express outrage towards an insult, since it's rarely used in the former sense and almost always in the latter.

Yeah, that's the problem with all the similar titles, isn't it? They get a bit confusing.

Yes, I got the "all things are in flux" part -- though now I look at it again I didn't translate it that way, for some reason -- it was the verb + ijou construction that had me confused, as I hadn't seen it before. Thanks for confirming that the "as long as" translation was correct, and for pointing out my odd translation of the preceding bit.

Thank you, that's a helpful way of looking at it. I generally tend to translate it along the lines of "why, you...!" in more casual contexts, but that wouldn't have worked here so I was at a loss.

I wonder why I keep making tense mistakes in these songs? I don't usually do it, and it's a very elementary thing to keep messing up on. Plus a quick proofread ought to catch them. And yet, despite the fact that I know I do this a lot in my Sanhora translations, I still make the mistakes and fail to catch them. Weird.
