This is what i came up with for a picture for the background. I would still like some input tho.

looks good, she goes pretty well with that bg, but she looks slightly washed out and there seems to be a bit of texture to her (maybe i'm seeing things)

I agree completly. She also seem blurry? The background looks really cool though! :D

I guess i'm the only one who likes the cool anime glow effect.

The original picture had a very grainy texture, so i did the best i could before i had to go to class. And i blurred the picture on purpose.

This one i decreased the blurred layer by 50 percent and ran the despeckle filter on both picture layers. I can't tell how grainy it is because i've been looking at it so long, so tell me if this is better.

I think she goes well with the bg. The bg looks really neat. She is kinda blurry and you said it was a grainy picture then I don't know what to do about it..I forget..university is getting to me. I thought I was seeing things at first.

She goes well with the bg...she could be a little sharper for my taste, but it's a very nice wall none the less ^_^

Hey, I just found this scan...it's pretty sharp and clear...it's also pretty large, so when you scale it down, it will look even sharper, might go good with that bg...use it if you want :)

But like I said above, a very nice wall as is.

yes if you look close you can see lines across her chest
im not sure if its the scan of her or the backround

Those are scanlines, they aren't black ones tho, i changed the color to match the picture and it darkened the color alittle. So maybe i'll move her above the scanlines layer

I like the non glow one, looks good.

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I have Final Version one completed. I left the scanlines where they were and I liked the cool anime glow effect so that stayed too. I tried as much a humanly possible to clean up the picture, but it's still alittle grainy. So if you can overlook some of this, I'd say its a pretty darn good wallpaper. Enjoy and feel free to still comment on it B)

Well, the extract is pretty good, but I fail to see how the background relates to anything

onslaught2029
11-13-2003, 12:05 AM
the background isn't supposed to neccessarily relate to anything, its just supposed to look good.

Everyone who was here before the boards shut down should know what comes next. :D

well then, I fail to see how you're going to make a good wallpaper. The whole wallpaper needs to have some sort of uniformity. Looking good sucks, if it hurts the eyes, or has no correlation to the wallpaper as a whole. For example, let say I took the picture of my tank in my signature. I extract the tank from the background and put it in a field of pink pansies with big lenflares and clouds and random shapes. Even though it looks good, it makes no sense what-so-ever. Get my drift?

onslaught2029

That wouldn't make sense, your right. But i didn't go to that extreme. I wouldn't do something like that. The wallpaper does work well together, even tho the background doesn't neccessarily go with what the series. I haven't seen the series, so if you have suggestions on what the background should look like, then help me out.

P.S. I have made plenty of good wallpapers. And some of them don't relate to the foreground pic. It's not a sin. Its just personal preference. There are alot of other ppl who would agree with me.

I think that you cleaned it up quite well, but I am still not sure about the glow effect :P

The background has to relate with the main pic, like Ownerizer said (hey man, it'd be soooo cool to see your tank on pink and flowers XD), so I'd say you should use something more related to bullet holes and techy stuff or so... That bg doesn't work...

Ok fine, i'll scrap this and do something else with it.

onslaught2029

I scrapped the fire and swirls and stuff and went to some solid colors and gradients. And to please some of the others here, the "Glowiness" is gone from the foreground pic. I tried to hide some of the badly texture places too, hopefully it won't show too bad.

I still dont' think you're grasping the concept here. Even though your background is not as busy it as it was, it still holds no relevance to Iria.

I like the simpler version much better. The first was good, but the background was too much and took away the focus from Iria.

Backgrounds don't always "relate" to the subject. Just similar color scheme is usually good enough. I think this background matches just fine, it has a technology/space-age feel and that's pretty much what Iria is.

You need to chill ownerizer. All art is perceptual, not what-ownerizer-says-goes. What you like is not wallpapering law, just your opinion.

Actually, my opinion is design law. So yes, what I say is golden. Gestaur and default will back me on this one.

Chill Billy... It's his style man, so if you don't like it, just don't come and put his work down.
I personally like the second one much better, but the subject pic looks kinda burned... Maybe change those hexagons there to something more like, bullets or something...

I have some other pictures that could be used, but they are all really faded, so if anybody has anymore Iria pics, feel free to post them or email them to me.

No, see, his point was that the background should somehow relate to the subject in the foreground. It's generic, but a starfield would fit better than what you have, as a good portion of Iria takes place in space. Just an example.

onslaught2029
11-15-2003, 07:26 PM
This is what i came up with after the starfield suggestion. I think this fits nicely, and text may or maynot get bullet holes, depends on what you guys think. I just have to figure out how to make them.

Enjoy.

hmm that last one looks very good....except iria is kinda dark
mabey you could brightin her up a bit :)

I brightened up Iria a little. If you can't tell, i had it darkened so that the bad scan didn't so thru so much.

If you know of a way i can fix the scan using layer styles and stuff, let me know.
