Yet another RTS by EA LA. It seems that the Empire of the Rising Sun is now upon us. A very unique RTS compared to it's predicestors. So what you guys think about this...?

I'm waiting for the PS3 version or a new computer, whichever comes first.

This game has been out for quiet a while now. I even have the Premire Edition. There's also a 360 version but I'm not sure about the PS3 version.

PS3 version was suspended so they could concentrate on the 360/PC versions, and has since been unsuspended. So now I'm just waiting.

So there's going to be a PS3 version after all...

Each faction works diffrently:

Allies work as if you were playing Tiberium Wars.
Soviets work as if you were playing Generals.
And the Empire of the Rising Sun (EotRS) work totally diffrent from each other.

The gameplay is basically Red Alert 2 + Generals + Tiberium Wars = Red Alert 3.

I like this game - its got more going for it than Tiberium wars did! So far the only thing I don't like is the always coop play campagn - though the AI is not half bad at playing I do hate havingto always pace myself to another ally as well as the enemey.

The differences in the armies is welcome and makes them more interesting to play - plus the duel nature of many units adds a new level of micro management that has never been present before. Also the level of micromanagement is different for the different armies - Soviets can be played with very little micro managing -the units are genearly tough enough to meat their way through a situation without you babysitting them or changing modes. In direct contrast the Rising Sun Empire is very micro intensive and if you don't use the micro well for them their armies can fall apart quickly.

Overall its a good game (not as polished as some) but definatly one of the better releases from EA - though all 3 armies feel a little like they are missing key units and some diveristy in this area chances are we will see an expansion which should add a good few new units to each race.

I've heard things to the effect that Yuri might rear his magnificent bald head in an expansion. I hope it's true, because I dig for Yuri.

Overall good. I like the concept of it, but I don't know about some aspects of it. It seems hyper-balanced in parts, and the unit designs and resource collection aren't my favourite aspects. I think the resource system is a little lame and there could have been two more units for each side, that's all. I'll play online with anyone if they want. I'm reasonable with the Soviets and Allies.

Well, not really. That only applies to the way buildings are constructed, to be honest. Allies work closer to the classic system in the way buildings are placed, you wait until they are constructed then place them; you place soviet buildings then they are built; you can place Empire buildings wherever as long as you can get the cores there.

I'd like to get it. But I don't really have a PC thats capable of playing it. It's old enough that it's not worth upgrading anymore.... And theres no way I'm playing this or any other RTS on a console.

I personally love RA3, I got it not long after it came out and I'm glad I did, it is an awesome RTS, definitely keep my RTS cravings occupied till DoW2 shows its head.

I've only played the Soviet campaign as of yet, but the story appeals to me. It's very much in line with the spirit of RA1.

One down point though is that I'm frustrated by the fact that you can't zoom out as far as I'd like.

Also the Japanese faction amuses me to no end. Their commando is nasty as hell though. I was bulldozing their base with half a dozen of apocalypse tanks when she came running by and hurled them into orbit with her damn telekinesis.

In general, every unit is vastly overpowered in RA3. There isn't one unit (perhaps except harvesters) that can't unleash an ocean liner worth of pain upon some other type of unit. If it's an anti-tank unit, you can not stop it with tanks. No matter how many. No matter how big. They'll die. If it's an anti-building unit, it will raze your entire base if you leave it unattended for half a minute. If it's an anti-infantry unit, it will slaughter 50 infantry units in seconds. If it's an anti-air unit, don't even bother attacking it with air. Your only hope is that one of the four dozen airplanes it shoots out of the sky crashes on it doing some damage.

I played all the campaigns but not really finished...just a bit of the three since I don't have much free time. I can only play it in an internet cafe near my school. I play it before classes start.

I like using the allied forces because they really rely on strategy to win. My fave mission in RA3 is when you can only use tanya and a couple of spies to destroy a port. It really got me thinking.

The soviets campaign is more of total destruction with brute force rather than strategy. The Empire's campaign relies on both force and strategy since every unit is powerful but needs close attention like the "King Oni" which can clobber land units but cannot touch air units so you need "mecha tengus" to escort it.

My fave commando is of course the soviet's Natasha, a female Boris! haha!
