"The mayor of Batman, Turkey is suing Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. for using the name without permission.

...

The mayor of the real city of Batman — an oil-producing city in southeast Turkey — is reportedly suing “Dark Knight” director Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros., seeking royalties from this summer’s box-office blockbuster, according to Variety.

In his lawsuit, Huseyin Kalkan, the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party mayor of Batman, is accusing Nolan and the studio of using the city’s name without permission.

“There is only one Batman in the world,” Kalkan said. “The American producers used the name of our city without informing us.”

According to Variety, Kalkan is compiling a series of charges against the director and Warner Bros., which owns the right to the Batman character.

Among the charges are a claim that the use of the Batman name is to blame for several unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate, based on the psychological impact that the film’s success has had on the city’s inhabitants, Variety reported."

Wow.... just... wow...

With the rise of economic troubles comes the rise of frivolous litigation. And this one takes the cake. Next.. Thor sues marvel comics for the unauthorized use of his image.

Uh, yeah right. That'll get laughed out of court.
Assuming an International incident isnt provoked.

---------------------
Its funny that they would wait for the movie and the studio to make hundreds of millions of dollars on JUST the "Dark Knight" movie before attempting to sue. I mean, they DO know that there was another movie just before it, right? (Batman Begins) Im sure the whole world knew of this and the many movies that came before it. How stupid and frivolous can this get?

And what the hell do they mean females are commiting suicide because of the movie's success? Actually its even stranger that theyre saying there is "unsolved" murders and increased female "suicides". Sounds kinda like something bigger is being hidden poorly.

The suit wont hold anyways because the true name of the city is Bati Ramen, and Batman is just a short (aha slang) version of it and therefore not official.

If this is about money, they're an "important oil producing area in Turkey". They're already getting millions from us already I would assume. How can they have a productive oil industry AND a regional airport and still have high unemployment?

I think after the case is quickly litigated and thrown out, there should be a countersuit for gross negligent accusations and wasted legal time and money. Hey wait, Warner Bros. is centered in California, right? Dont we penalize for frivolous lawsuits? Probably doesnt apply for international reasons.
