This is "supposedly" a sex fact that has went around for many years. I disagree. I am not sure if I am your average male, but if there is one here then please confirm this because I think it is a load of crap. Give me 10 minutes and I might, but that is it.

(Note that I do not want any pointless rants about this fact. I know it is not true too but I was curious to see some sensible reactions to your thoughts.)

That is just normal though. I can probably garuntee to you that every normal male with no disabilities or problems over the age of 16 have had thoughts on sex. It is when a man does not think of sex at all, and is over the specified age, when one should worry. All men/adolescents think of it every once in a while, 'tis human nature and goes for woman too. I think that it is an official part placed in the human mind.

Well, when I was a young child I did not even know what sex was. I knew it existed but I did not know how one would do it. I used to think that sex consisted of.....no actually. Even though it was a stupid thought it is still inappropriate to speak of.

When in college all I think about is the topic at hand and what I am writing or listening to. It is not exactly as if I am like;

MP2K beat me with links, so I'll just comment on the Kinsey study. The Kinsey report relies on men to report on how often they think about sex, they didn't really use any means to test it. The study is also a bit old (1948), considering the overuse of sex to sell products I wouldn't be surprised if people think about sex less (desensitised society, hooooooo!).

I don't think I've ever had sex related thoughts on my own accord. If someone else mentions it then sure it would be on the brain for as long as the topic lasts.

As a generalisation from those around me, it's usually sexually frustrated males and females who think about sex more often.

It may not be 7 sec. for me, but I do think about sex (not just intercourse) a lot, especially since this girl I like sits next to me in 3 of my 6 classes. Even when not in those 3 classes my mind tends to wander to things like, well you know.

That is probably close to the truth, but often misunderstood. What it means is that at any given time, some 10% of your brain is being used. This is a reasonable conjecture, since you obviously don't constantly use all of your mental faculties all of the time. Yes that may very well be the case with some females, as it is with males too. The thing is that this fact has been around for many years and has always stated "Average Male", and therefore I used the official term written. It was just a matter of common sense really. If this were indeed fact, then its frequency would increase due to adolescents and pervy old men ('round 60 I hear they turn into animals), and lowered by children and middle aged men. So, the number would not reflect how often any one person thought of sex, but an average. You have to understand statictics and what means are. [Think of it this way, if you took a pool of 30 people, and 15 of them drove 30 mph and 15 drove 70, then the average driver would drive 50 miles, which none of them do in reality.] So really, the data would be pretty irrelevant, to be useful it would need to give age ranges at the very least. But anyway, it's obviously false because (Snopes!) a much higher majority of men are in the range that would lower the frequency.

Actually, I'd be interested to know what the mean, median, and mode is of men ages 8-12, 13-19, 20-25, 30-49, and 50+. That would be much more interesting and would probably vary based on location. Some countries have a taboo on premarital sex, so the numbers would be less frequent. And even if I narrowed the pool to just American men, it would still vary. Gah, impossible for my brain to comprehend and conjecture.

I think this has a lot of variables to it. A persons lifestyle dictates what they think about. Even when I'm talking to someone that I'm attracted to I usually don't think about it. I'm usually focusing on a smooth conversation and not saying something that will come off as wrong.
