This will only result in flaming. But I like Guild Wars just for the graphics WoW looks a bit uhm cartoonish. And you know what they say. WoW = Waiting On Warhammer. I just think I like GW more due the tons of skills. I don't know how it is but I think WOW is like Lineage2. Every class has the same skills. Ofcourse you would think well uhm hello a class has skills. And they all have the same even in Gw so stop trolling. Well gw has many skills and you can only take like a few with you. Which could result in a monk killing a warrior. Yes a strong class against a weak class in normal mmo'ing a monk is like trash that heals. In Gw they are important. So that's what I like about Gw. Wow does not seem to all have this. But Wow would have nice things also. But I only find the fact that gw is one time few a big +.

It is so hard to choose! They are both so unbelievably repetitive and boring.

Guild Wars is a game I go back and forth to. It has a good storyline. Good graphics, many jobs and skills. As for WoW I don't feel I'd want to pay a monthly fee in order to play it. That's about all I can say about those two games.

Hmm, GW has a better PvP balance and it's free, but as far as userbase you get what you pay for.

WoW on the other hand is larger overall for better or worse, each class handles noticably different, and the staff runs a reasonably tight ship when it comes to rulebreakers and cheating. On the other hand, it has a monthly fee and most people seem to get more and more arrogant and dbaggy with every new purple they get.

Art's really a matter of opinion.

Can't I play WoW and hop on GW when the realm's down?

I have personally never played Guild Wars, but I did hear it was good. I actually live on WoW. So I will have to say WoW. I can't critize yet though until I play Guild Wars =]

I must admit WoW graphics are good but...Like TrainHeart said...cartoonish. I do believe the graphics could do better.

/facepalm

Anyways, moving on to something that makes sense...

I can't honestly put down Guild Wars since I've never played it before, but people say it is a pretty pvp-centric game. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm ALL about pvp, the only thing I used to play WoW for was Arena, but the problem with Guild Wars is that apparently large chunks of the playerbase constantly leave for WoW...and never come back. I can't possibly say WHY, but I can guess...

So in the end, I'd rather save my money.

I have Guild Wars, and absolutely no interest in World of Warcraft. I like Guild Wars because PvP and PvE are split, and PvE worlds are instanced so that it plays more like a single-player RPG, only with a group. I don't have to put up with campers, kill-stealers, and those annoying high-level people who come back to show off to the lower levels and wipe out an entire mob in two seconds. I like the way combat works, with my myriad of skills collected from hidden corners of the map or bought. I love how skills and equipment components are shared among my entire account, meaning it's a breeze to skill and equip new characters. I like how stats are downplayed in comparison to skills. And I have no interest in World of Warcraft because none of these are things that I have heard about it. Indeed, part of why I have no interest in WoW is because I haven't heard or seen anything to tell me that this is not a big, fancy, expensive Korean MMO, the kind I hate so much.

I feel like have an obligation to defend WoW here.

Pve and Pvp ARE split in WoW. I don't know why you thought they weren't (admittedly though, before arena was implemented and the lack of resilience, the only way to be a god at pvp was to do a lot of raiding).

I won't argue with you about the campers, but that's solved by playing on a pve server. Kill-stealing...just straight up doesn't work in wow. It's hard to explain, but the tagging system makes it difficult. Even if you get no exp for the kill, you're the only one who can loot it if you tag it first, and you're probably only killing those mobs in the first place because you need a quest item.

Also, high-levels actually don't come to low level areas very frequently. Maybe a bored level 20 or 30, but rarely will you see a level 70 in any zone other than the end-game areas, because there's so many things to occupy you. Going back to a low-end zone is straight up just a waste of time. The only real reason why a high-level would go back to a low level zone is to kill defenseless noobs in a contested area (which is solvable by playing on a pve server, or just yelling in chat to the people on your faction doing the same thing).

Interesting about the skills thing there. WoW is nothing like that, each class has a specific unique skill table that modifies via a talent tree, which changes properties of certain skills that give you an edge in different scenarios. It's called "speccing"--short for specializing (in a certain area of combat in this instance, e.g. for defense, offense, etc). Also, player skill is a very important factor in WoW now, with how easy it is now for players to get the best gear (ease as in, it requires zero skill to get). I don't know about pve (community is split on whether or not fighting a scripted computer boss requires skill), but without skill in PvP, with the way things are now in-game, the best gear won't save you, and if it does, not by very much. The differences in itemization have basically been made null.

WoW has its similarities with korean mmo's, in the fact that it takes SOME dedication to level up, but unlike koeran mmos it is not impossible to reach the game's level plateau, and there are a lot more activities available other than mindlessly grinding on NPCs, constantly fighting to increase your rank on a leaderboard.

And I felt I had an obligation to defend my preferred game, so no harm and no foul. Anyway, Guild Wars does things a mite(or so) differently. Each class has it's own unique stats, which are one primary stat and then various other stats that compliment the various types of skills your character can use. Rangers have Expertise(Primary), Beast Mastery, Marksmanship and Wilderness Survival. Dervishes get Mysticism(Primary), Earth Prayers, Scythe Mastery, and Wind Prayers. When you dual-class, you get all stats but the primary stat of whatever class you've just taken up. A Ranger/Dervish would have Expertise, Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Wilderness Survival, Earth Prayers, Scythe Master and Wind Prayers. And so on. What makes this interesting is that thanks to this, any class can dual as any other class without issue. But still, stats are nowhere near as important as skills, which the game handles rather like a CCG. You get many skills from your class instructors in the start of your character's career, but after that you must find them, rather like a CCG. And while each class specializes in certain things thanks to these skills(Interupting Ranger!), using these in new and different combinations is, in fact, easy and possible. If I have it in my head that I can combine the Warrior and Elementalist Classes, that is, combine a Tank with a Caster to milk a few skills from the Caster class, I can. In addition, the basic roles of each class are often only three or four out of my eight. If I want to add some Ritualist to my Ranger so that he can Interupt enemies and then buff allies and summon damages soak spirits because there's always going to be that one Assassin who pops up next me and decides to DPS me, I can do so without affecting my performance as a Ranger.

I assume Opinionated meant that when you level you meet other characters(players) and of course the opposite faction ones to.So it includes PvP in contested areas.Especially places like Stranglethron where i at least can't do things normally for to long until a PvP showdown occurs.
Yes it can be solved by taking a PvE server but eh i prefer PvP servers.Whats the fun if you can do things the easy way. :]

GW and WoW are pretty much different in their system and the thing i don't like about GW is that you do questing in places that are like instances like Opi said.No other players unless you are in a group.Makes it boring imo. =/

I played WoW before guildwars came out and when it did i tried it out and played it for a few days but stopped because it was really boring and not even comparable to WoW.

Just my opinion
