Plot synopsis
16-year-old Hayate is really down on his luck. His unemployed parents are good-for-nothings who waste the money they have on gambling. One day, his parents have racked up a huge gambling debt that they had to sell Hayate to the yakuza for the value of his organs. In a desperate attempt to avoid that fate, Hayate decides to become a “bad guy” and kidnap someone to be held for ransom, but his efforts to do so are mistaken as a confession of love by the girl he targets. She ends up saving his life and hiring him to work as a butler in her huge mansion.

Story (9/10)
Since this is about the anime, I won't compare it to the manga on the story.
But, the story is nothing short of awesome. All these random things happen to further the plot of the story, and in such a way that you need to know a LOT of anime to get half the references and parodies they make. But that brings out the best in the show, since Nagi is such an otaku that it fits so well.

Characters (9/10)
Hayate, such a totally awesome character, who does anything without question towards the pain he'll incur doing it.
and Nagi, such an otaku tsundere, it's awesome, almost comparable to Konata from Lucky Star, but has her own mansion.
and so on, all the characters are so likeable and full of life that it's hard to forget even one of them.

Art/animation (10/10)
one of the best animation jobs i've seen in recent anime. my only complaints are towards the (sometimes) poorly integrated 3d elements in the show.

Voice acting, music (9/10)
I watched this after finishing the Shakugan no Shana series, so everytime i heard Nagi yelling, i was reminded of Shana (same voice actress, for those who don't know... she also did Zero Louise). Other than that, it was done really well. i dont really have any complaints about the audio quality at all.

Overall (9.7/10)
Easily one of my favorite anime series. I was originally hooked onto the series by the manga, and just had to watch the anime. There's a couple differences in the two, like the anime adding in a couple episodes which dont actually happen in the manga, but i'm hoping they'll wrap it all up in the second season.
