looking for red-haired female character to cosplay

I'm not actually a fan of either, anime or manga, but my good friend happens to be and I promised to go to a cosplay event with her. I like the idea of cosplaying but don't know anything about anime/manga characters. I wouldn't mind watching (or reading) some, but at first I decided to ask if there are any red-haired not-so-girly female characters in any not-so-childish anime series? I'd like to leave my hair the way it is, so I thought about searching a character with hair like mine and then getting to know the character better.

So, any less super-cheerful female characters with long, red hair (preferably wavy but not necessarily)? Just tell the name and the series.
