Justin Foley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Foley) – DrumsHistory
Following the break-up of his band Overcast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overcast_%28band%29) in 1998, bassist Mike D'Antonio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_D%27Antonio) jammed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jam_%28music%29) with Aftershock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aftershock_%28band%29) drummer Adam Dutkiewicz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Dutkiewicz). As both bands had disbanded, Dutkiewicz recruited guitarist Joel Stroetzel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Stroetzel) from Aftershock, and Jesse Leach (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Leach) of Nothing Stays Gold as vocalist. Former Overcast vocalist Brian Fair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Fair) was considered for the role, but he was unable to join due to obligations with his band Shadows Fall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadows_Fall). D'Antonio said the band was initially going to be for fun and a "thing to do on the side".

The band's name originated from the break-up of Overcast and Aftershock, using aspects that pushed and elevated the band and putting the combination into a new category. D'Antonio commented "basically shutting everything down that we once knew and starting over. Killswitch, which is like turning everything off. Like if someone’s hand gets caught in something in a metal working shop the foreman will press one button that will turn off the machines. A Killswitch. Then the engage is just turning it back on or something like that"

I haven't heard anything by them other than their cover of Holy Diver. Nothing pisses me off more than some crappy band making a horrible cover of a once great song. But they really did an amazing job with it, enough to make me want to look up some of their other music.

GG My Curse you made it to GH3 that makes you famous...now if only there was a better Rise Against song on there.....

The End of Heartbreak was a fantastic album. I really like these guys.

Out of all the staple semi-predictable popular metal bands out there, these guys are my favorite. They just have a cool sound.

I've always really liked their song Life to Lifeless.

I feel the same way as Tsuna.
Off all the predictable metalcore out there, these are one of the few I find listenable.
Basically because they were some of the first and they have some unique touches like a vocalist that actually can sing and growl.
I prefer the stuff Howard Jones has done, I'm not so big on the two first albums.
And you gotta love Adam and his tiny cape, he's just so awsome live xD

Favorite songs must be:
Daylight Dies
End Of Heartache
The Arms Of Sorrow
My Curse
Break The Silence
Holy Diver (they did excellent work on this tune)
Rose Of Sharyn

There's a reason why Killswitch Engage rocks. My little brother has a bunch of songs from them, including "My Curse" (which happens to be the most popular song on iTunes).

Killswitch Engage is listenable when it comes to metalcore, but in the long run they aren't that great.

Umm...they've got 4 albums out that all had a coupla hits from them, their music has also been featured in several soundtracks and also GH3. Regardless of your opinion, the rest of the world thinks they are pretty good.

Personally I love The End Of Heartache the best, that song has so much emotion and raw power to it. But Holy Diver is a new Close Second.

Peace,
