About a year ago I tried presenting this band here, and that... didn't go well xP
But now they seem to have reached a more international circuit so again I want to see if they have any fans here on AF.

Katatonia is a Swedish doom/alt rock band.
Their sound is melancholic and depressive.
Katatonia's lyrics often deal with very dark subjects often relating to isolation and a general incompatibilty with society and human conventions.

In their early years their vocals and sound were harsh, doom/death metal sounding, but they changed to a clean sound when vocalist, Jonas Renkse, became unable to scream properly.
His vocals and lyrics is the main focus in their music. His voice is very emotional, cold and depressive.

They have 7 official album releases, the latest being The Great Cold Distance which was released on 13. March 2006.
So far there has been 3 singles of that album; My Twin, Deliberation and July.
In May 2007, they released the live album Live Consternation which came with a cd and dvd from a concert they had in Germany.

Current line-up:
Jonas Renkse - Vocals - Also in Bloodbath
Anders Nyström - Guitar - Also in Bloodbath, X-Diabolical Masquerade
Fred Norrman - Guitar
Mattias Norrman - Bass
Daniel Liljekvist - Drums

Studio albums:
Dance of December Souls (1993)
Brave Murder Day (1996)
Discouraged Ones (1998)
Tonight's Decision (1999)
Last Fair Deal Gone Down (2001)
Viva Emptiness (2003)
The Great Cold Distance (2006)

Other musicians who has been involved with Katatonia is Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) which had vocals on the album "Brave Murder Day" and also Dan Swanö which has been their drummer.

My favorite album is "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" and song is "Tonights Music".

So what do the people of AF think of Katatonia?
Favorite album/song?

Some songs so those who haven't heard them (or those who have, but not heard it all) can paint a picture of what they're like. It's at least one song from each album except Dance Of December Souls:

Never been crazy about death/doom (funeral, stoner, and drone doom is my thing :D), but Brave Murder Day is amazingly good. The Great Cold Distance, however, doesn't really impress and thats the only other Katatonia album I have so far.

I love Katatonia. I liked their death doom albums but ended up liking their new direction to. Tonight's Decision gets a regular spin over here.
