The presents are nice, but I like just the mood of the day. Also, I love watching "A Christmas Story" every year. Such a hilarious movie. And I'm excited for after Xmas this year, cause I'm spending a week with friends. Party time!

I can't find a single aspect of X-mas that I don't utterly despise. It's the holiday of herd mindedness, the holiday of cheap pleasures, of gawking at blinking colored lights like an idiot, of endless repetition of tacky soulless muzak, of hypocritical rituals with no basis in history, of squandering money on meaningless bric-a-brac, of quelling your screaming conscience with empty gifts to charities, of profiteering on children; to put it plain of simply, the holiday of humbug.

Well, actually, there is one thing I agree with about X-mas. Glogg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulled_Wine#Gl.C3.B6gg). But that is sort of a Scandinavian thing.

I used to like going to my grandparent's house and then going to my great grandma's house on Christmas Eve. I like the fact I get out of school, too. This year is the first Christmas my great grandma isn't alive, though, so I don't know about this year.

Screw Christmas - New Year's Eve is the real 'poop' since on that night, I can play with bombs while being heavily intoxicated. Huzzah.

I like the religeous aspects, it sort of a day where i can get up early, pray, and just feel closer to jesus. Its really... cool. Y'know? And dont boo me for posting religeous stuff because Christman is SUPPOSED to be a religeous holiday.

My family members are visiting tomorrow. The real celebration begins!

And the definition of the "real celebration" is any, and I mean any excuse for my grandparents to put out tons of food and alcohol.

Is anyone going to say anything about Jesus? That is what Christmas is supposed to be. His birthday you know... its kinda rude to celebrate someones birthday and ignore them. Without him, theres no christmas. So at least CONSIDER praying in thanks. (Yes its thanksgiving all over again)

Christmas doesn't hold any more magic for me in the sense of impending snow or presents that'll be under the tree. The magic it holds for me is the knowledge that I've gotten through another year with most of my family intact.

That, and the fact I'll be having a week away from school so I can study for midterms.

I never waited for them, if they missed me opening my presents, then tough luck :p .

Believe it or not, what I like best out of this time of year, are the decorations and lights. My granfather and I used to sit next our christmas tree and talk about random stuff during this time. I still do it, even if he isn't around anymore.

And, Merry Christmas to you all!

It's the most wonderful time of the year, or is it?

Well as far as research go's to my standards, it's not actually the best time of the year. It's basically about life's simple greed, and pleasure's instead of granting them a wish you've giving them a sin basically.

However, we should learn the aspects of religious proportions, since Christ was born on that day, we should respect that day. On the birth of Jesus Christ, he died for our sins.

Please don't bad rep me, 'cause I am expressing religious thoughts. This is just who I am.

Plus, this is a most wonderful time of year just by standing by your family as a whole, and thanking Christ for dying on the cross.

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year.

Jesus was not born on X-mas. They don't know for certain when he was born, so X-mas was picked because the pagans celebrated winter solstice then. So, truth to be told, X-mas is as unchristian as you get.

I read about something like that (yes, I read! A lot!)

It's true, the original holiday was a pagan celebration before a group of religious folks changed it.
And since they don't know when Jesus was born, December 25 was picked to drown out the original celebration of the winter festival. Something similar was done for Easter, too.

Lately, "X-mas" is looking more like commercialism gone out of control... it's sad. I usually stay at home with my family. I despise going shopping...

... Eh who cares?? We shall spread holiday cheer anyway! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all!!

Y'know when you really think about it, even the pagan "Santa Claus" aspects of the holiday still seem pretty Christian to me.

I traveled a lot when I was younger, because of the military, so I always enjoyed the chances to be around extended family. Everyone may say how they hate Christmas because its commercialized, but honestly commercialization isn't too bad. It helps bolster that falling dollar that we all depend upon so much (as long as idiots don't spend more than they can afford and take out credit). You just have to keep to your own moral guideline to enjoy anyday. Besides theres very few who don't appreciate a gift under the tree =P. As for the religous aspect, do whatever you want that makes you happy, go to church, do nothing, sacrifice various items to a "candy cane god", why should I care what you do as long as you don't force it upon me?

People can let others ruin the holiday by taking everything too seriously, anyways Happy Christmas =P.

edit: We always have gritta (I'm unsure of the spelling, its a german dish) too. It is especially good since the recipe is from my great grandmother ><.

What I like doing on holidays is just to goof off, be my lazy self, and go around town giving presents to my friends, or just go sliding.

On Christmas Eve, my parents let me, my older sister and my younger brother open one small present. I got the Slayers Next Full Season DVD set this year. Awesome-ness. :D

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone on AF~! :)

It's basically about life's simple greed, and pleasure's instead of granting them a wish you've giving them a sin basically.

See, this is why the only religion more embarrassing than Scientology is Christianity. Since when is giving and togetherness an anti-catholic sentiment? I think you should stop being so quick to damn the "heathens" because Christmas has become a mostly commercial holiday, however it doesn't mean some people don't celebrate for the right reasons. Whatever, though. Better for me, all of the joy, none of the responsibility. Just like easter, all of the candy none of the guilt!

Oh, and Merry Christmas or whatever other present giving holiday you celebrate =/

niKopol
12-25-2007, 12:32 AM
Yeah. Way to rub the salt in the wound Masali and others. Did you think that we made up holidays just to indulge in sins and party guilt free? No. The reason for the holidays is to restore what little will to live most people have. But thanks for looking deep, as we all know without holidays we'd all be, well, a little less happy. And the suicide rate would double as we start looking at life as it really is. Of course, I think that the only reason we added the gift giving part is so that we'd celebrate ourselves, instead of one guy. If you don't indulge in decadence life will be utterly boring(unless your a scrooge), hence the suicide rate increase. SO think, and think hard would you really want to end something that brings so little joy into so many lives. Unless you believe people should see it as it should and they probably can't handle that by all means shoot' em straight. But enough rambling from a half-psychotic person, with mild SPD and a short temper.

Merry Christmas everyone!

My family and I have never really been into the religious aspect of Christmas (Or any holiday for that matter =/) Yeah I know, damn me and such >_>

My favorite part of Christmas is probably the presents and some of the music thats on, and no not the Jingle Bells and all that crap. Ever heard the "I am Santa Claus" version of "Iron Man"? Look it up, Bob Rivers did it. Or Skindred's metal version Christmas song XD I'm not one much for the whole family gathering thing so thats not a good aspect =/ Merry Christmas anyways ^.^
