I'm posting this here because this is for people not a fan of the show also.

First off, I AM a fan of the show. Not as much as a few years ago in like 2000-2002, but I still enjoy it.

I do know it has MANY faults though.Episodes dragging with fighters talking to each other for entire episodes instead of fighting.KIDS being super saiyans.People being revived who knows how many times...What I want to know is, especially from people who hate/dislike the show, is it everything about the story and show you hate, or just things like I mentioned?

What parts/moments would you have changed from the series?

I would have definitely had Goku stay dead after such a dramatic scene when Goku gives up his life to keep Cell from blowing up Earth.

Gohan shouldn't have been in any of the other big fighters league at age eleven.

And, well, too much to list, but you get my point.Could this show have been way better and more respected if it was made differently (or done again)?

Well the anime is almost perfect the way i remember it and there are only a few things that kinda bug me in it.I realy dislike some sagas where there's some sort of loooong journey where there are around 20 episodes of no real action by the time a really cool fight starts although most fights of this sort were worth the wait.I really hate it that Gohan's abbilities were wasted after the cell fight. He could have been the best saiyan of them all.Or maybe Bulma wouldnt be so annoying(her younger version). At the end of DBZ that would be the END with no GT(i disliked it even though there were a few good fights).Maybe the voices in the japanese version a litlle different cuz i kinda dont like some of them.Cant think of anything else right now

Dude, if you don't want to put up with the long fights and power ups. Just read the manga. They're 10 pages.

Well, it's really not just that, it's mostly the other stuff I mentioned like kids as super saiyans and millions of revivals.

Agreed. DBZ made me disinterested because fights took too long. Everybody spends so much time explaining crap, and demonstrating their powers, and even worse, they spend so much time underestimating each other.

Dude1 charges up and blows up a nearby mountain.
Dude2: Is that all you have? You can't possibly defeat me with such weak power!
Dude1 & Dude2 fight.
Dude2 loses.
Dude2: I... underestimated you... *falls unconscious*
Dude1 explains all sorts of crap, including crap about his past and why he's so strong or whatever.
Dude2 suddenly wakes up, charges up and is stronger than before.
Dude1 & Dude2 fight.
Dude2 wins this time.
Dude1: You're stronger than I thought...
Dude2 gloats and explains his past this time.
Dude1 gets back up, charges up.

So on so forth. This kind of crap can drag on for so many episodes.

DBZ's story may be the most interesting thing ever, but I seriously can't put up with such a slow fight scene.

In addition to that, I absolutely hate the character designs and art style. Nothing is attractive to me visually. In fact, it kinda repulses me. The girls have such broad shoulders and look like men (aside from breasts, long hair and eyelashes, which is apparently supposed to make them female). And the men have unnatural bulky muscles. You got bulges in their muscles where you're not supposed to.

The heads are huge but the faces are crumpled up in just a small area right at the middle of the front of the head, sometimes unnecessarily too far from the forehead/chin. Just look at Vegeta. His receding hairline makes his forehead go on for miles above his eyebrows. I personally don't even mind the oldsk00l pointy hair flying all around the place, if the rest of the head at least made sense.

This makes me wonder why there's so much fascination with DBZ porn. I mean, if I saw a DBZ character, I'm pretty sure sex isn't the first thing I'd think about, considering how unattractive everybody is.

Oh Buruma, your manly shoulders turn me on. Oh Goku, embrace me with your arm-quadriceps. I don't get it. <_<

If DBZ were to be remade, make fighting faster and more exciting, and completely rework the art style to something that looks at least attractive. It doesn't have to be realistic or anything. Just don't make them look so unnatural.

If I were to direct it, DBZ would only be an OVA.

@Unknownymous - you don't really know much about DBZ do you.Like the time it was made, the name of the characters or the genre :D :D :D

I proudly admit that. :D I only know it was being shown in the late 80's and gained extreme popularity in the early 90's especially. Then several TV stations in different countries picked it up because the manga sold so well, hence, the current popularity as it stands.

If you think the sizes of the characters of DBZ are bad, then you need to see Hokuto no Ken. Which was probably just as popular as Dragon Ball was in Japan but Hokuto no Ken never really achieved popularity on an international scale.

There are some plenty cool 80s anime out there. Like Zeta Gundam, Macross, and Go-Lion/Voltron.

Anyway, the Dragon Ball manga ended some where in 1995 and the anime ended in the beginning of 1996.

I say if they were to re-do the DBZ anime, just get rid of the Garlic, Jr. filler saga and the rest of the fillers like when Goku fell into Hell or HFIL, or when he meets princess snake. I don't think his snake way journey exeecded 10 chapters. Also, just try to fit 3 chapters in an episode.

I hated all those resurrections.
I wish Vegeta died for good after his sacrifice (Boo saga).
It would be more epic:P

I agree with everything Unknownmyous said. Nothing is really that attractive (except for the androids and that is because they are androids. XD) Also, the villians are a JOKE.

You may be misunderstanding me somewhere. I have no intention of wanting to find out and know more about DBZ. What little I did know when watching some episodes when I was younger, I tried hard to forget.

All drama and hopes for arguments aside, I'm simply putting out my opinions on the show, as was asked by the thread starter. I'm not trying to say DBZ is a terrible show, because obviously it isn't, if it's been so popular worldwide for almost 2 decades now. I'm just saying I didn't like it.

And in keeping true to the original topic of the thread, no defense or offense or whatnot, I simply answered that these are the things I think need to be changed if they were to re-do DBZ. It's not about 80's being crap or whatnot. That's beside the point. The point is, if they redo it, especially in this new generation, they absolutely must change these things, at least in my opinion, if they're going to get people like me to watch it. Otherwise it's only a success to those who were already die hard fans, such as yourself obviously, and thusly a failure to everybody else. What's changed, then? Why even redo it?

I hope you get my point. And I have no intention of personally attacking you, or any DBZ fan. Doing such things isn't all too interesting really. <_<

Now kindly get off my back and stop giving me negative rep just because I dislike something you like. I'm not obliged to like anything you do, neither are you obliged to like anything I like, or even agree with me. That's why it's a forum. Anyone can say anything they want as long as it's within the rules, on-topic and respectful.

Never seen it lol but it sounds terrible if it's worse than DBZ's proportions. Obviously a fighting anime too, right? I'll probably look around for artwork just to see how it is.

Is it ok to say...er...if they gave it a plot, it might be a better anime?

Seriously, I only ever saw what was aired in English on toonami before Tenchi Muyou, so I might be seeing the worst of it. But I've watched series like Bleach and Inuyasha and liked them despite the fighting because there are worthwhile characters involved, and some attempt at plot originality. I never saw that in DBZ. The only ONE character who had ANY vaguely interesting spark about him was Vegeta, but his name made me think of some kind of soya paste...:S

I didn't like the art style either (although I got a kick out of Tamahome going super saiyan in Fushigi Yuugi - that's not in the manga so I'm sure it was on purpose...)

In my opinion, the whole thing was just ugly, repetitive and unappealing :-/. Anime - to me - needs three main things to make it work - decent plot, decent characters, decent appearance. DBZ failed on all three points. Nuff said, really...
