So I'm reading this story meant for little kids w/o much kanji and in this one sentence:

あまのじゃくは いたずらものに さんなんて いわなくてもいいの.

over the さん in さんなんて there are these two little tick-mark like things where you'd usually see furigana. They look sort of like commas. I feel like I remember reading about these somewhere before, but I can't for the life of me think of where or what they mean.

Bah! What do they mean? :banghead:

If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it. <3

im not so sure.....if they were dots then it would be easy. japanese people put dots above (or beside if they are writing vertically) words they want to stress on or accentuate....in english it would be roughly the same as putting italics or bold fonts on the word.

but since these are commas...hmmmm, it could be the same thing....then again it might not be

Maybe that is it...it does kind of make sense...I think...

Thanks!

Yeah, those are used in the Zero no Tsukaima light novels as well, I thought they were commas.
