It is a very well made and very well thought anime and manga, and yes, I think the manga is a bit better, because the drawings are richer and the plot is well explained.

The characters in Death note are not as cute as other anime but the story is good. I like its story.;)

I like the show, I came across it oneday and was just gonna skip it but it turned out pretty cool but the live action movie was really bad.

The anime is really cool and well-made and they didn't leave anything (or much) out from the manga, which is great! Both the art in the anime AND manga looks really good too and humanistic. + The openings/endings are even well-made.
I think the manga is better though, but I've only read up to volume 4... or if it was 6.
