Outlaw Star question

Hi there! Im just writing to get peoples opinion about the anime, Outlaw Star! Please tell me what you think of it, and wether or not there is a Manga to go along with it.

There is a manga, but there are only three volumes. The anime is also only slightly related to the manga, so there will be big plot changes.

I liked Mel... not everyday you find a perfect bio-android that can interface with a ship's computer.. granted she also looked hot but thats a side point.
