View Full Version : Plaid's Gallery (part two, I suppose!)

I just now saw this forum (d'oh?) and since most of what I draw is original, or fanart not really connected to Anime, most of my work seems to fit better here. The World of Warcraft art will stay in the fanart gallery though (although you can get into a nice philosophical discussion, is it really fanart if you created the character yourself and are only borrowing another person's world - but anyway!). In any case I know this is the right place to post my blends! http://www.animegalleries.net/bbs/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Artist's Notes:

Most of my stuff is hosted elsewhere so I know I'm only hogging my bandwidth. If it goes down or you have trouble let me know.

All of my blends were created from images that are copyright-free/free-for-use, from these sources:
http://www.loc.gov/index.html Library of Congress Print Archives
http://www.sxc.hu/ Stock.Xchng
http://gimp-savvy.com/PHOTO-ARCHIVE/ Gimp-Savvy Photo Archive

For most things I use Photoshop 6.0 and a graphics tablet, for older works a Graphire 2 or lately an Intuos 3.

The "Art Art"...

A continuous contour drawing done a few days ago in art class of a still life.

Another contour drawing, this time noncontinuous, of one of my art teachers - also from class. Took about 10-15 minutes.

Sketch of a little Roman gal I might play as in the MMO Gods and Heroes. Of course, nobody ever wants to RP Mythological Ancient Rome in the meantime... but oh well :P

There's another picture of Arria the little Roman gal, actually done with pencil and scanned, a relative rarity :P okay not really, I keep a sketchbook I'm just very lazy about scanning things.

I think her name is Kitaen. She's a random character that just sort of bounced into my head... the strings flowing out behind her are magic, permanently connected to her fingers; she can control their length at will and they can slice through almost anything, but she can never detatch them from herself - makes for interesting fight scenes.
I actually like the nude version of this much better because I just didn't like the clothing design and couldn't get it to look right - it's "sailor moon nudity" so nothing to actually really see imho, but if it's not okay to post Mods feel free to edit my post and delete this. Yes, artistic nudity, you've been warned!: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v193/PlaidButterfly/kitaen.gif

Here's a good clump of pencil sketches...

I don't know quite what this thing is, but I believe the general consensus was that the best name for it was a "slinket".

His name is Horatio, he ambles through any generic Fantasy world you please. When all my friends saw him they swooned over him because they thought he was handsome. ?! He's not handsome!! He's captured a baby unicorn and is making the poor thing haul around his stuff! XP

The Goddess of Ipods? ...no, I don't know either.

The following stuff is a bit old, but I still like it anyway:

A superhero character, named Double Jeopardy - a lawyer with split personality disorder who works to be a prosecutor protecting the public by day and by night is absolutely psychotic. :D

Another superhero character - this is Shatter, not really a villian as much as a mercenary. Her special ability is control over glass (yes glass) - she can generate molten glass from the tips of her fingers, cool it near-instantaneously, move it every-which-way, etc, etc... doesn't sound all that useful until you contemplate how unpleasant it would be to be encased in a block of molten glass. ;)

This is about a year+ old - since then my coloring has gotten better thank goodness - but it's a pic of a friend's character I did for her birthday. I like it a lot still. :)

The Blends...

The best blend I've done in a great while - a logo for one of my fanfics.

Another fanfiction logo blend, don't like this one quite as much but the texture is lovely.

Probably the favourite blend I've done - titled "Urban Saints".

Second favourite blend I've done - "Go Ahead and Jump". Thinking of selling some prints of it at a local art show. :)

First blend I did that I really liked; doesn't have a title but I think it would be great as a starter for a story/fanfiction/poem/etc contest.

I'm hoping this double post will be OK...

Here's 2 more pics from 2 more days of art class.

I don't like the riding helment (got rushed) but I like the hat much better in this one.

Trying to shade/color from life is really... really... hard :3 Not my best work by any means, mostly because I wasn't trying to simplify much if at all.

Everything related with Fanart should be in fanart section!

Everything related with Fanart should be in fanart section!
As far as I know (I think?) all of my fanart is; if there's anything that's borderline please let me know - I don't know the policy here about original characters created for roleplaying. ^^;;;

Thank you for your kind comment Red Phoenix! :) I have most of this week off so I'm hoping I can get some good work done.

Fanart = everything consisted of drawings (not only copying other anime chars) without any use of computer graphic programs.
In other words, if you just draw an image, scanned it and uploaded it, it's considered as a fanart. Tho, if you colored it with the computer, it may stay here ... We don't have any straight rules about that. Altho ... I'd also move that to the fanart section.

So... if I do a pencil drawing of a character that's mine, that's a fanart? o_0;;

I'll post elsewhere for more clarification I suppose - I'm just very confused. As I understood it, fan art was just that, art connected in some way to a 'fandom', art using characters/concepts/ideas that another person generated and were used in a TV show/anime/manga/book/etc. I've never seen media come into play at all. o_0;

ok, maybe I wasn't clear ... of course original art can't be considered as fanart ... but we consider it in the same category on this forum ... so all of it goes in the "fan art" section.

Edit: yes, I know ... the description of this forum is wrong, it's from a previous arrangement of the forums ... hope we will fix it soon.

I find the stuff you posted here Plaid very nice. I just decided to pop on over here because I was look at the WP contest thread and wanted to check yours out. Your pencil drawings are superb. Character proportions are all drawn well. My favorite is the Horatio one with his little pony, that one was adorable.

My favorite blend you had was the one called 'Ad and Jump' I believe from the URL. It's just beautiful. I just graduated from college in June with a degree in web and graphic design, so I had to do the same thing. lol

I wish I could draw though. lol That's one thing I lack in, but I make up for it with my graphic design abilities. I'd love to see more! And also, if you have a dA account, PM me the address, I'd like to watch ya! :D

Thank you very much Thornwillow!! :) I try to work hard on proportions, they're so hard to get right so that's a very big compliment ^___^

Sadly I don't have a DA account - well, I do, there's just nothing there (ordinary-deviant I think it is) - this is due to my computer's habit of crashing every time I go visit DA. Of course it's had its hard drive replaced since then so its massive corruption may be a lot better... but I'm scared to go see :P

So here's more work from art class - I'm going back and coloring one sketch:

Here's the same piece... several more days work.

I have to finish it up tomorrow, the cloth and daisies are going to be such a pain ;_;

It may be a pain Plaidbuttuerfly but in the end it's worth it... By the way it's looking great and when it's done I'm sure it'll look amazing.:D I haven't drawn something good in ages so I envy you at the moment...
