Touch me lightly
Touch me lightly
A gentle gasp escapes my mouth
The corners upturned into a soft smile
I feel your hand hovering before me
Touch me lightly-I say. I yearn
You don’t-of course
Your hand strays from me, returning to you
I feel cold-dark. Dead.
My eyes stop their focus,
Remaining silent their yearn-still existent.
My eyes eventually stray to meet your own,
You seem puzzled, ashamed, distant.
I outstretch my palm,
it turned upwards, awaiting your hand.
You dare not touch it, your eyes show slight remorse.
As you move away slowly,
I feel my heart shrivel up and die,
Like a rose, repenting its choice to bloom to its full splendour.
You turn away-completely.
Your back facing me, my heart feeling a gentle sting.
I sigh, a soft sigh.
Not loud enough to catch your attention-to make you turn back.
But loud enough to stir the smallest of creatures.
Touch me lightly-I wish.
I ask.
I plead.
But you are gone.
