Note: This was a poem I had to do for a University assignment. I am not one for poetry and it never has apealed to me. But I thought what the hey, why not post it? It has to be better than Emo poetry. And yes, I was inspired by the Les Mis song "turning"

Turning
Conception to Birth.
A little bundle of joy.
Seeing the light of life.
Turning, turning, turning through the years. Birth to Childhood.
Seen but not heard.
Happily playing oblivious to all things.
Turning, turning, turning through the years.

Childhood to Adolescence.
Blossoming into adulthood.
Causing trouble at every turn.
Turning, turning, turning through the years.

Adolescence to Adulthood.
The bird leaving the nest.
Moving into a world that knows only death and taxes.
Turning, turning, turning through the years.

Adulthood to Middle Age.
The best years now gone.
Looking back on what has been done.
Turning, turning, turning through the years.

Middle Age into Old Age.
The so-called golden years.
Left in a bed in a distant nursing home.
Turning, turning, turning through the years.

Is this what we are?
Is this who we are?
People are not born into this.
Nor do we grow into them.
We craft ourselves in what we do.
As we turn, turn, turn through the years.
