I just want to know how old you guys were when you started to use the computer!
Please answer honestly!

As for me, I started when I was just 4 years old!
I started to surf the net when I turned 5.
I had my Email add when I was just 8!

I started all of that except the e-mail when I was six.
I was bored an no one ever posed as a challenge to me so I was subscribed to go on the computer to get a challenge.

I'm sixteen and finally got an e-mail account I was so happy. See my mom never approved of e-mail.

3 or 4 years old, except I used an Amiga and a Commodore 64 instead of a PC. Computer days came to me from 5-8, where I was basicaly so addicted (and still am) to the computers that I was only allowed to use them on Wednesdays and Sundays...man I looked forward to those days so much...

First time I went on the world wide web was in year 7 of secondary school, age 11 or 12, first email address coming at the same age. Reason for this is because we couldn't afford any form of internet connection at home, so school was the only time I could surf the web....until my grandfather got AOL. Around that time I immediatly started to hate AOL. So, as a recap (and a note beforehand - I was born on December 5th, 1987, so I will go one year over to adjust for the fact that the event might have happened the following year) -

First computer experience: 1990-1992, age 3 or 4
First computer days: 1992-1996, age 5-8
First net experience & first email address: 1998 - 2000, age 11 or 12

Our first computer was one of those too, DX i think, or was it SX?. Though, it was somewhat old when we got it, so it was more like 200 bucks, but still. Ah, I remember the old days of programming qBasic on that thing.

Haha, join the club. Did you play the Commander Keen games? Probably the best games ever made.

Question: What do you do infront of a computer when you're as young as some of you seem to be? Not like reading is anything you're that proficient with when you're 3...?

I actualy learnt to read at around the age of 3 or so. In fact, in nursery school (or kindergarden as it's known as in the US) I used to read to the other kids.

Generaly I just played mindless video games. That's all the Amiga and Commodore was used for when I was younger....actualy I also played a couple of Fun School games as well.

About 3 or 4 years old. My father has been working in the computer industry (generally in memory storage and customer service) since before the first P.C. was introduced, and when a single computer could fill an entire room.

I recall playing a lot of Tuneland (click on stuff, hear songs. Voiced by Howie Mendel[I don't care enough to check If I spelled his name right.]) Later, my best friend and I started playing the Conquest of Elysium II Demo, which is fairly awesome. We had to have played it over 1000 hours. On a demo.

Question: What do you do infront of a computer when you're as young as some of you seem to be? Not like reading is anything you're that proficient with when you're 3...?I was reading pretty well at 3, but computer games were much easier than reading. A joystick is really easy to use. I was using the computer at a very young age.

For the record..
http://www.v-sep.net/thebeginning.jpg

I'm the young one. That's an Atari 800 that my dad is using. While that isn't me actually using the computer, I think it's a good indication of why I was so young when I did start. I started programming in Atari Basic when I was 6 years old (1988). I began learning Atari assembler when I was 11 (1993).

Of course back then, we didn't even have games like Commander Keen (which was awesome). A home version of Centipede was pretty damn cool though =D

I really am amazed at how intelligent people are even at a very young age!
A lot of you have started using the computer around 3 - 8 years old and surfed the net for the very first time at 4 - 10, but I know some old people here started to use these things a bit late!

If we are talking about a PC, it was probably when I was about 8 or 9 years old when I first used it for a large amount of time (i.e. playing PC games). I cannot remember ever having to "learn" how to use a computer... I expect my first computer use was when I was about 5-6 years old

If we are talking about the Internet, I've used it every-so-often for about as many years as I have computers - we've had the Internet at our home in the past, but I was limited to one hour of use a week, but this January we've had Broadband installed and I'm on it many ours of the day! ^^;

Thanks,
Sayoran ^_^

Let me see, I guess I started to use computer when I was 4 years old. It was when I was in kindergarten. I started using internet when I was 11 years old, because in my region there was no access to the internet until I was 11 years old. That's when I spent most of the time learning programming and graphic designing. Satisfy with my answer?

Started at age 8 (1993), with DOS ... man I miss that OS. At that time I was learning how to use the computer and one year later (at age 9) I got my first coding experience with Basic. I started with modifying games like Gorilla.bas which coders and some others all know, later I started coding useless things (what do you expect from a kid O_o;; ) like jumping boxes, moving animals (now, I would say rather moving monsters) and such. Later, when Windows 95 came out I really enjoyed crushing it and then re-installing it. Don't ask my father's reaction, it was terrible O_o;;, besides floppy disks became his best friends. xD

At the beginning I only had a 80386 (a 386 in other words) and games like WarCraft 2, Death Rally ... didn't run (they were made for 80486 platforms), so my true gaming experience started in 1998 when I upgraded to a Pentium with a clock speed of 100Mhz (I never went into details, but I think it was a twicked Pentium with a clock speed of 66Mhz). Until then I was more than happy with my Gorilla.bas and Prince of Persia (which was my first game BTW). They were my favorite. Good old times ... I so miss them ;_;

If it ran on VB, it wasn't official from Nintendo, and wouldn't be surprising if nobody has heard of it.I don't know, it was really strange, with really strange enemies like this golden ball that would fly at you, and when you jumped on it, would propell you into the air. Everything about it was completely different, and unfortunately I can't find any screen shots or anything on it.

I do remember the title screen having the Nintendo (R) logo on it though.

I was about five years old when I started using the computer, really. I mean, I was ON the computer at four, doing whatever games and stuff. But actually going online and such, I was about five. So that was-- Thirteen years ago? @_@ Lawlz. I started online roleplaying when I was liiiike.. hm.. 6? =\ I've never really "been" or "acted" my age, because I was forced to grow up faster than your average kid. So it came easier to me to be able to do such things. :x

Rofl. I remember we had to take computer classes to learn to type and whatnot starting in 6th grade. =\ The teacher made me teach the class occasionally because I was the best there. x_x; Imagine being the freak that types 120 WPM in 6th grade with 96% accuracy. ;__; I had no life!

I started using the computer at about 3 or 4, but it was just to play games. Now, keep in mind these were the crappy, green font, black background computers. We then got another computer, which was still used for games. At about 10, we got a IMac and started using the internet. At 13 I was allowed to have an email account on AOL, along with the instant messenger.

I was nine and to be honest, I had no idea what I was doing. I gave away some of my information and we started to get these "jobs online!" ads and magazines in the mail. The computer was a peice of junk too.

Well from what I remember I was about 6 or 7 and that was with the school computers and they had no hard drive (this was back in the day when all you needed was 1.44MB) and then a few years later one of the teachers wanted me to teach her class how to use a computer (although it didn't go that well and I only got through a quater of the class)

It seems I was a late starter- I was about fourteen when we got the internet and I started using the computer properly. Before that, I only used one in IT lessons (or sometimes played a virtual pet game on an awful old computer we had at home). It was only seven years ago, but I'm sure the internet was just beginning to get popular amongst school age people that I knew.

I started around the age of 12, because I never really found any interest in the computer. The only thing that got me hooked to it from the start was Microsoft Flight Simulator. Then I started into the computer games, and then came to the internet.
