And tales of symphoina. (Yes it was a anime show it only aired in Japan though.) The Tales game date back to the super nintendo so the chances are high the games came first. The best anime based game I have ever played is without a doubt robotech battlecry. It isn't super faithful to the show (for example you fight myra in the force of arms stage, she's on earths side by that time) or anything but you don't need to know anything about the show to enjoy it.

The escort missions in that game suck.

I agree, most anime based games are pretty horrible, but there are a few good ones.

Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam
Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon
Dragonball Z: Budokai
MS Sage(gundam game)
That Inuyasha rpg(it was decent)
Thats about all I can think of, the rest pretty much blew.

Well, including online games, Ronin: Spirit of the Sword was pretty awesome. Great dungeon crawler experience, a beautiful combat system, and some tight graphics. It used an anime art style and wasn't based off of any one show.

I always kinda liked Ghost in the Shell, mostly because it was more true to the Manga than the Anime. Not really all that great, but cool, original physics.

I only played a demo of FMA 2, but it was fun.

Just about all games based on Anime suck. Because it is usually just simply too hard to stay true to the Anime and give the player enough control to let them feel like they are really in control of the character(s) and story.

Sonic was a video game (possibly a manga, not sure) long before the tv shows debuted. Anime based off a video game in that case. And Sonic X follows the story of Sonic Adventure and later, and loosely.

My Picks Are:
DBZ: Legend Of The SSJ (SNES, Turn Based RPG, Follows Story)
DBZ Super Botuden 1-3 (SNES, Fighting, Follows Story)
DBZ Hyper Dimension (SNES, Fighting, Follows Story)
Tenchi Muyo RPG (SNES, Turn Based RPG, Stays True To Nature Of Seires)
Gundam Wing: Endless Duel (SNES, Fighting, Loosely Followed Story, But REALLY Fun)
Tech Romancer (Sega Dreamcast, 3D Fighting, Awesome Gameplay for both 1p & 2p, Follows Movie, & Offers Branching Story Lines)
Robotech: Battle Cry (XB, GC, PS2, Action Adventure RPG, Fun, Awesome, Pertains to Macross Saga)

And the BEST....

Gundam: Side Story 0079 (Sega Dreamcast, Intense & Superb One Player Action/Beat 'Em Up/Adventure game from the perspective of a commander of a mobile suit unit from Earth, taking place shortly after the original colony drop. Played from cockpit view. Every mobile suit weapon was at your dispense [from that era], from head mounted vulcan guns, to rockets, small and large shields, and a beam sabre.

Initial D Arcade Stage Ver. 1 through Ver.3

Fun games... They get boring after I beat it but once a new version comes along I get hooked again and end up spending lot of money all over again. All of the money me and my friends have spent on it would be enough to buy an arcade. =P

And I'm getting the PSP version of it as well. Initial D Street Stage I think it's called. Only import and I doubt it'll be released in the US since it's not so popular.

The people that edited the anime for the US are really retarded. They took out all of the eurobeats and replaced them with some "white guy" rapping stuff. And don't get me started on the dubbing. -_- I'm guessing thats the reason why it didn't do very well in the US. I don't see how anyone could like the dubbed version.
