Well this is a very big problem to me, its no big deal watching animes or reading mangas, i dunno why but my parents are having huge problem with me with animes.

Waist of time?
Bad education?
Ratings?

If your parents have a problem with it, then talk to them. They dont watch it like you do, so they dont know why you like it. Some animations have nudity and too much gun shooting and that stuff. Those can be problems that your parents think about. Talk to them and assure them that it doesn't bother you in your studies or anything.

To address your first post, you are entitled to do what you want, it's a hobby like anything else, like going dancing or etc. It can't alone be blammed for changes in your education, you alone are responsible enough for that and no blame can be put on that and well can't say anything about ratings..

My parents think that anime is ment only for children (from the days i wached sailor moon ^^; ) they think i should "grow up" lol but they're a lot of different genre out there, some are ment for teens some adults, you just need to show them... but when it comes to violence and stuff like that well you can turn on your tv and watch any show and find violence (which can be worse and be in real life) i try to tell my parents its an art form of life -^.^-

hmmm... my parents have no problem about me watching anime... I think most parents will understand it that you like anime with a bit of explaining, just you don't overdo it like spending all your pocket money that supposed to last about week, to buy anime -related stuff i.e. DVDs and ask pocket money from them the very next day, they sure gone ballastic 'bout that or watching anime until your tend to ignore your responsiblity at home, your studies or them completely. Try to control yourself, try set time limits to watch anime or if you're a DVD boxset collector freak, set which anime you want to buy, saving your money and when you have the sufficient money, buy it and enjoy.

Most of you guys say that parents associate anime with American cartoons which target a younger audience. I think it's the opposite, because I can't see why anyone would have a problem with his or her kids watching American cartoons. Anime is so diverse, there's something for every age group. You're parents may not like anime, because they saw you watching an anime with adult content or something. Like two or three years ago my dad saw me watching Hellsing, and he didn't like the language. If you're parents do think that you're too old for cartoons try to explain that all animes aren't meant to be viewed by kids. If you're not a socially active person, your parents may think that you have some obsession with fantasy, or that you're not able to function in the real world. Then again, you didn't say why you're parents aren't fond of you watching animes. You probably should ask them what's the problem, then ask for help.

If your parents trust you than they will trust you enough to make your own desicisons on shows appropirate to watch as per their wish's.A parents realation ship with their children is based upon Trust, compensation, and understanding.
Just because your an otaku does not mean they should change that either, i don't know how old you are, however communication is important so you can come to terms with them and earn their trust.
Just ask your parents to hear you out and respect your choices as a young adult trying to learn responsability, they will most likly come to some agreement, like previewing an episode of an anime that you want to watch, or limiting the ratings.

My advise may be right, or wrong, it depends on your parents.

well...it depends i guess. My mom and dad doesn't approve of animes that are..err...R rating..but they allow me to watch the other type of anime. As long as it didn't interupt my school work too. But i think thats why your parents don't like it, that you watch anime, plus my friends said that you get these ideas. @_@ but im not one of those type of people.

Most anime is just fine. It really depends on what your parent allow and don't allow. Besides that there should be no problems.

My parents dont care if i watch anime. I know 3 big major reasons why some parents dont like their kids watching anime. Ill take some exapmles from different shows
1.Death and blood. For instance when Goku gets shot throght the heart by Vegetas powerful beam them dies with blood every where.

2.Pictures of girls in showers etc.. (I wont go too in detail) Like when in Inuyahsa sees kagome bathing he immediatley looks away.

3. Too mature or story line too adultish.What if a little kid watches any adult animes?

One of the big differences between anime and american cartoons is value. Most american cartoons are about one thing, comedy. Anime has a wide variety of genre's in which most hold some type of moral or meaning. For instance in a lot of the anime's I like there is a strong emphasis on family ties and values, like in siblinghood. My sister and I were at each others throats most of the time until we each started watching anime. I think anime is a great tool for teaching those kinds of family values to anyone old enough to watch them.

Well anime is nothing like american cartoons. Americans think cartoons are meant to be funny and have lots of wierd looking characters. And all anime is meant for a more mature audiance than some 11 year old sitting there giggling at some characters having sex. Although it has to be cencored of course, it's still not for those 11 year old kids. In fact the true age requirement for all animes (except for the crappy ones) is 14 years. But even the kiddie animes have concorship on them. Even pokemon had 5 episodes removed from the originol series because it didn't make sense to have guns in a show for kids.

Parents are only concerned because I know 100% that they caught you watching an anime with swearing, or violence, or sex. They only hate it because 1: It's realistic and 2: It's not for kids. That is why just about all the animes (good ones) you see are on adult swim. So it's not the parents fault you want to watch animated porn. It's only a problem if they LET you watch that stuff. Actualy then it's a crime, but it's still a problem.

And if you think I lied about the crime thing, I wasn't. It really is illegal to let your kids watch porn. You will be charged with distribution of pornographic material to minors. You can be fined $400 and your children will most most likely be taken into custody of a foster home.

But that is only if you KNEW they were watching pornography and just let them watch it without a care. If you didn't know then you won't have anything done with the police. I'm against the hentai thing but I guess pervs need a reason to live too. I just think they should keep it all in Japan where sick american perverts can't get to it. (Unless they have $500,000 to move to Japan)
