Moved to Misc. Photoshop costs something like $299.99 and you can get it from www.adobe.com.

Photoshop is easily the best designing program, but if you want a good one for free I'd suggest the GIMP. Heh, I love that name.

There's also a free trial version for Photoshop available:

We don't support pirated software, so we'll not discuss how... heh.

Photoshop is expensive, you can get Paint Shop Pro cheaper, if you feel like paying for a program. If not GIMP is a good idea.

The Gimp is a good idea if you either A: have a good computer , or B: You know how to manage your space. It tends to suck up more computer resources than Photoshop and is alot less stable.

It's all trial and error. Personally.. Try combining programs before running directly to one.

Be sure to try out the programs before choosing the one you like the most. Each of the programs has a free trial version on their company website.

As for using the programs, the best is to just jump in and try it out! Many bookstores sell how-to books for the programs, but there are also tutorials online. For a listing of some of the many tutorials, check out the stickied thread in the AW.com forum.

Jasc Paint Shop Pro, which can be utilized to make very nice things with the right extra plugins, will only cost you ~$100. I started my designing styles on Jasc Paint Shop Pro until I received Photoshop as a gift two years ago.

Actually, my friend paid for it =D

Jasc rocks. But there's this one program that's free that's really good.. It's like firefox or something fox.. or phoenix.. or SOMETHING like that.
